I was asked by a neighbour earlier if I could provide a USB mouse at short notice as they had broken their one.

So, knowing the usual one I have here is a PS2 design (though it includes a laser) I pulled some relegated kit from the cupboard and connected it up to theoffice PC.

Transformation in terms of positioning (and the keyboard positivity ) is outstanding, though I will need to get familar with the buttons on top and right hand side, if they are compatible with Win 7/8/10 of course.

Even the legs at the rear provide a far better comfort once raised than the later - Dell - keyboard I have been using for a few years.

So the question is, how best to keep the tracking of a ball mouse on par ( I believe I put this one away only because I had to recover a laptop that required PS2 architecture, so I kept the later device on the desktop).

It looks slightly discoloured from a bit of mould but the two runners are perfect (no hairs or grease inside) and there are no cats in the house these days to shed fur.

Does anyone make quality mouse mats these days ?

Thanks, can you confirm this is a track ball compatible device ?
I'm not into gaming accessories but are the tracking ball designs superior to later laser devices ?

(which leads to the next question )

Are PS2 connected devices still viable in gaming ? Without the USB interface they must have some advantage in response times but by how much ?

No idea as I only use with a normal mouse,
I do not see why it will not work with a ball mouse.

Many gamers still prefer a PS/2 keyboard & mouse. Seem to remember a figure of around 5 to 30 milliseconds less latency. 120fps is 8.3ms per frame so the delay could be up to a few frames of action.

I must admit the HP scrolling circuitry when applied to this site is far better than the mouse I have been using for the past few years.

Just need to get fingers familiar with the 'latest' keyboard.

Whilst the mouse is still used in FPS circles, the track ball version no longer appears in the lineup.
