Its exactly 30 years since Channel 4 launched, and ridiculous though it seems now - became the 4th tv channel available in the UK!

Heres the first 5 minutes of the launch

Yep, I remember it very well: Blotty "Countdown", with Twice-Nightly Whiteley (RIP).

Twice a night lost for words at the completion of the most bizarre numbers game :

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

I have both versions of FourScore somewhere on my laptop, probably in that folder named 4score, the theme they used on that opening, and the music they used during ad breaks when they had no ads to show... :)

The original FourScore right off the vinyl is just superb, the video doesn't do it justice, it's an incredible theme, just a shame that Channel4 cocked up with the royalty licensing on it, having to pay for it every time they played an ident with any variation of the 4-note FourScore theme, and the other version, the no-ads ad break one, that's a simple affair, pretty much all electronic, nothing fancy, just something to fill the gap I suppose... O-Ha

I would upload them here, but, I think CHannel4 may take offence to their copyright being breached... :confused

IIRC the full version was only ever played twice - once on the opening night.

Every time C4 played the 4 note sting it cost them £3.50 - they had to send David Dundas a cheque for around £1000 every week - for 10 years!

[grammar nazi mode on]

So, you mean, it was only ever played twice, on the opening night, rather than twice - once on the opening night (but not finishing the sentence properly making it look like there was another instance that you didn't type in your original post)... :p

[grammar nazi mode cancel]

Anyway, was looking through the 4score folder on my laptop, found I'd also acquired scans of the sleeve for the Four Score record, seems rather, well, "empty" in terms of what's printed on it:
