Has anyone seen any signs of eg Changes to strength of 11023, further Tests, migration overnight?

This hiatus is somewhat tedious!

Hi

About 11.17CET I noticed that the 11023H signal disappeared completely for about 5 seconds. When it came back the SQ was lower; 80% on my Humax instead of 90%. (Can't give values in dB since my meter can't handle 8PSK.)

5 minutes later the signal disappeared again, for 5 seconds. The following 20 minutes the signal varied wildly, sometimes the picture broke-up or froze even though strength/quality was at 80/80. Also, the signal was still being switched and off. At one time the signal disappeared, then came back at 70%, dropped to 60%, disppeared, back to 70%, disppeared again and the came back at 80%.

All this time signals on 1N were unchanged.

Haven´t been able to check continously since then, but they've definitely been up to something this morning!

Regards,
Bengt

no changes, switchovers, nothing...I have the same exact reception that I had 2 weeks ago.

by now i think that all those little changes we experienced with 1n tp's were accidental, maybe due to some kind of weather conditions...all this anxiety created a whole lot of buzz and unfounded speculation...if we look at the big picture, the satellite was just launched 2 months ago today, so the process is not overly delayed. of course the SES press releases didnt help

Still in the realms of speculation I'm afraid, but from what I've gleaned from the many recent contributions, The transponder 11023H is transmitting using parameters which make fringe reception particularly tricky. Other transponders, for example those sending in SD and Vertically polarised could display rather different characteristics. Does this seem reasonable? Any way, I'll just have to be patient and start looking into larger dishes and maybe some sort of signal meter to be able to calculate how large a dish I would need. This of course would free up my existing 150cm PF for other duties!

Interesting....There must be a very rapid falloff between Guarda and Lisbon/Algarve,
but that seems to be the style of the footprint.

Are the any reception results from Porto (Oporto)?

Hi again

Just to let you know, with regards to my previous posting (post #7):
Quality now back to 90%.
1N transponders still unchanged.

That's over 400km so nothing very dramatic about that. Here, with 2D we had two zones just over 100km apart and one needed a 1.2m dish and the other a 2.4m.

No.

DVB-S2 8PSK 2/3 = 6.6dB threshold (test signal)
DVB-S QPSK 5/6 = 6.5dB threshold (FTA SD channels, BBC2 England, for example)
DVB-S2 QPSK 8/9 = 6.2dB threshold (ITV HD)

The easy channels are the ones higher than 11200 MHz, mostly subscription or rubbish.

DVB-S QPSK 2/3 = 4.4dB threshold (SD channels, Sky News, for example)
DVB-S2 QPSK 3/4 = 4.0dB threshold (ITV2 HD, for example)

And BTW, before this switch 11023H was a lot stronger than the band D transponders, so if they go down by the same amount bigger dishes will be needed.

Thanks Huevos for interesting info, so the fact that Public Service Broadcasters are on low frequencies is probably no accident...

I'd say yes it does. I've 2 boxes. One gets 98% on any Astra 1N DVB-S/DVB-S2 TP - short cable run of 7m. The other is on the end of a long cable run with 2 joins and shares the cable with a DTT signal. The same TP parameters on Astra 1N differ in signal quality to 2F by 25% (Other TPs from 1N DVB-S are 98%). I have had breakup in bad weather on 10847V from 1N on that box. I'm on the West coast of Ireland in the 'UK spot' so if my cabling is making a difference, someone else in the fringe zone can easily have issues with TP 11023H but perhaps not a TP with V or a different SR.
