Would like to start the thread by saying that i have had help thus far from the BRILLIANT blue platinum. Have managed to connect to the on demand server but can`t download any content. It records for a second and then says press record to continue but nothing happens. In the planner it says recording failed ! Any help anyone please ???

Just to add some extra information.

t.m. is receiving 2E and 2F PE beams, I think Demand relies on this. He is using OverPlay Smart DNS and has configured the network settings on his Sky box appropriately. I have seen the settings and they look good to me. He also has a Smart TV and is connecting to BBC iPlayer etc. successfully via the same router and with the same SmartDNS settings.

we have seen problems with overplay smart dns and sky on demand in recent weeks. usually it started working again after a few restarts, or the next day.
it is recommended to configure the dns servers on a router and connect the sky box to this router.

I am using Overplay. The only problem is that sometimes the new search reports an error and reverts to the old search.

what t.m. describes is when the IP address is rejected by the sky servers.
before december there used to be 2 scenarios:
- if connected with a foreign IP, in the network menu connection showed all OK, but when you tried to download something, the same thing happened what t.m. describes.
- if connected with a uk ip or a compatible dns server, downloads worked fine.

lately something changed:
- in some cases, even if you are using a vpn with a UK IP, on demand connection says FAIL in the network menu, so you cant even get to the on demand section to attempt downloading.
plus the 2 scenarios mentioned above.
it seems that the box deals with different UK IP addresses differently now.

I can playback the videos marked with a playback symbol. It simply does not want to download anything

that means it does not work. the playback symbol is assigned to programmes that are loaded onto the box via satellite, not internet.

Well not knowing much about Sky setups but networks in general if DHCP is off there and there is no IP address allocated to the skybox then it can never work. I would suspect you need to either pre-allocate a IP address from your local network in the stb setup somewhere or switch on DHCP and let it obtain one itself from your router.

There is of course an ip address there but i am not Writing what it is here. I have been informed by an expert that the DHCP should be set to off

He has allocated a fixed IP address on his network to the Sky box.

okay, that's fine, i have the same setup: dhcp is off on my router (as its a 2nd router), and i did the same thing: i manually set the ip address for the sky box...works perfectly, that's not he issue here.

overplay has several dns server pairs, apart from the one mentioned on the website. i had a lengthy correspondence with them regarding another issue, and i was given these...not sure if i'm at liberty to give them out...not in the open forum, anyway.

It'll be a private IP address anyway - probably 192.168. something... harmless to let the outside world see it :)

Mine is working but the DNS server they have given me is not the same as the Ops.

then t.m. should try the same ones you're using.

as for the local ip address...if the network test says connection is OK, that means the box has a live internet access.
thats another issue that the sky server rejects his IP address. changing the dns servers on the router might solve that. when doing so, it's recommended to restart the sky box (unplug from the mains)

also, there is such a thing called "clearing the DNS cache"...but this might take us too far. an IT guy did that for me once, after i played around with too many vpn/dns providers...
