Veteran guitarist Wilko Johnson has announced that he will be making a farewell tour of the UK in a couple of month's time.

And this will be a proper farewell tour as he has been disgnosed will terminal cancer of the pancreas. There'll be no second chance so if he plays anywhere close you owe it to ypirself to go and see him play.

There have been no dates announced yet but keep an eye on his website's Tour Dates page.

Wilko found fame as part of the proto-punk pub rock band Doctor Feelgood. He left to pursue a solo career and, for a time, joined Ian Dury's Blockheads (I have an In Concert performance on my PVR with him playing). It was in the Blockheads that he met bassist Norman Watt-Roy who later joined Wilko's own band. Norman Watt-Roy's exhuberant style of playing (he provided the classic bass notes for Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax) mixed well with Wilko#s and he joined up ias part of his trio.

Catch it while you can. You won't the like again.

Sadly no Wilko as he had long since left the Feelgoods. He did retain links with them though and after the untimely death of singer Lee Brilleaux would join with current and former Feelgoods at the annual commemorative event on Canvey Island.

Hopefully the BBC will show the film about the Feelgoods, Oil City Confidential, again soon.
...though you should turn the sound up
"Best played loud" - the classic rock music instruction!

Well, I didn't think I'd be reopening this thread except with some sad news. Amazingly, Wilko is still with us. Not only did he do his farewell tour but he found that he was still in reasonably good health and then went just "just touring". As recently as last month he did some sporadic dates up and down the country and supported Status Quo at some of their gigs.

Now Wilko may have had a reprieve from his cancer. It was found to be a rare type and he's undergone surgery to cut out a goodly size of him. He's recovering now and has had to cancel some of his planned dates as a result.

He's not out of the woods yet but here's hoping. Wotta man!

PS take a listen to the album he and Roger Daltrey have recorded. Great stuff!

A duet album may be on the cards.

Well here's some good news. Wilko has announced that he has been cured of cancer (although, technically, shouldn't that be in remission). Whatever he's back on his feet and was well enough to accept an award yesterday.

Having pereviously come to terms with dying he's now at somewhat of a loose end about what to do. Somehow I don't think it'll be long before he's on the road again.
