Just moving my post here before I get told off.... :D

Sat coax is 75ohm and the rear end of a CB is 50ohm IIRC, so you are looking at an impedance mismatch before you even try to get the antenna length correct.
Just get some RG58 and use that instead and split it into shield and centre conductor outside the window, each side being a quarter wave length in the 11mtr band so you end up with a half wave dipole cable clipped to your wall vertically. Make it slightly (4 or 5 inches) too long, then SWR it with a pair of wire cutters.

Simple huh ???

L.

I was looking through the wardrobe of junk last night and I found the original cable from my Magmount (still with the giant screw-on plug), I guess I could use that then? So, I'd have to putthe cable Outdoors then, or could I get away with what I used to do and have it indoors from the highest ceiling in my house (which incidentally is just under the roof)?

So each section of cable needs to be about 2.25M long (give or take a few CM's for the SWR trimming) and fitted basically hanging (not literally, but for arguments sake), but which bit goes on the top half (shielding or Core)?

Also, I need to dig out one of my 2 CB's, hope I find the one which I covered with Blue Vinyl stuff (used for signwriting on Vans etc), I salvaged that from a scrapyard, I can't believe some numpty would leave such a nice CB in a scrapper!!!

Hehehe, yeah it was getting a bit off-topic >:)

Yeah, you could use that cable - the core should point north :)
Or you could also have a horizontal dipole (which I used once) - Have the cable going up, then splitting; having them going horizontally)

Depending on how many people still use them near you, inside should be *ok*.. just not great - My first decent, mobile antenna was a FireStik (huge things, coil wound all the way up) - Though because I didn't have a Lorry (which they were designed for) or a car (which I couldn't use it on anyway without getting told off by the polis ;p), I had it using a biscuit tin as a ground plane lol :)

Yeah, alot of people throw out decent equipment :(( Handy for us though, since people who own scrappies and tips usually take stuff before they get covered in crap, and sell them at markets ;) (alot of my non-x86 hardware and Radio equipment is from markets/bootsales lol)

In fact, it shouldn't matter too much what cable you use, as any remaing (legal!) CB rigs are low power, and should auto self protect anyway.

50 Ohm is because that's the nominal input impedence of a quarter wave whip antenna, at operating freqency, though most would be too physically short and have a loading inductor to compensate.

Erm, north??? Why north?

I was thinking Horizontal might be better for me so I can run it along under the roof on the ceiling to get a better signal, got very thick walls you see....

There are a few aerials up and about around the area, whether they're still in use, I have no idea, but there's plenty of trucks going through Colne so I'm sure I could natter with them!!!! :D
I used to use my Magmount on an old (and I mean OLD) biscuit tin as a ground plane too, worked very nicely indoors it did...

Well, the one I have (a Uniden I think) was in a scrapper in full view, on the dashboard, mic hanging over the steering wheel, still all wired in (although it looked as though someone was going to pull it out as the wires had been tugged on...), so I took my screwdriver and pliers out and rescued it... :D
(and yes, it was a scrapped car in a scrapyard, as the back end was pretty mangled, unless people actually drive cars like that these days!!! I think it was a Ford Sierra or Granada/Scorpio)

Not found either of my CB's, but have found one of the hand-mics though... :D

I remember when I first started with CBing (about 7 years, not that long for some people, but nearly half my life ago!!!) and I was told (over the waves) that my "rig" was a damned good one, and I only got it for a tenner from a shop in Sunderland when I lived with my dad, wish I knew where it was though, could be in a box in the cellar....

Just been looking for proper whips (for when I have the money to get one) and I like the looks of this one which I could bolt onto the back of my indoor dish (of course, it'd be useless downstairs!!!O-Ha ), or at least to the aerial on the front of my house (who's it is though, I have no idea!!!)... :D

Been searching through every box and every cupboard in my house and BOTH of my two CB's are gone. I'm really miffed now, got myself all geared up to get one set up and play about, but all I have is a hand mic and a short bit of aerial cable... 'O'-red

So I'm stuck... :(

It's annoying thinking back to when I had my Harrier and Uniden CB radios, then finding they'd been thrown out without my consent, to replace them now would mean spending more money than I can be bothered to... :(
