Hi,
Just got a few questions about SkyQ that no one i know seems to have answers for.
The SkyQ LNB has two outputs, is one for Horizontal and one for Vertical ?
And if so, which is which? They don't seem to be marked up.
Also on the back of the sky Q digibox it has 2 dish inputs, does it matter which way round they go.
is one for H, and one for V or does the box sort and decode all that?
I have a satellite meter that i can program up with certain frequencies for dish alignment,
i'd like to program it up for skyQ, does anyone have some vertical and horizontal frequencies and values
i can use for free to air channels on skyQ?
Sorry to seem a bit clueless, but i'm not an expert, but i do like to play around with my dishes and receivers.
Regards J.

Where do you intend buying the box? Nobody is actually selling them legally - Sky only rent the boxes to subscribers. Any boxes on ebay etc are "stolen property" and usually the listings are very quickly removed.

As to your other questions - the lnb is wideband and sends horiz and vert polarisations to the box down separate cables. The frequencies etc are the same channels as for Sky HD+ but can your meter cope with the non standard LO frequency and voltage required by the lnb?

thanks for your reply, I'm an electrician and sometimes have to instal the odd dish for my clients, the sort of non standard installs that sky won't do, like on a chimney, or when cables have to go through a loft.
I don't have any skyQ boxes, but last week a client had the skyQ dish (which sky had left them)
and they asked me to fit it, i just aligned it up with a normal quad LNB on 28 degrees, then swapped it over to the skyQ wideband version, they said it worked fine. But i would like to set up my meter for skyQ. What voltage does a skyQ LNB need to work? Not sure how low my meter frequencies will cover, i'll have to check. But i could set the H & V for the higher frequencies?
Which output on the LNB is which (V&H?) and does it matter which connects to which input on the skyQ box?
cheers j.

By LO I mean Local Oscillator frequency that the LNB downconverts by AND NOT low frequency band. The Sky Q lnb has a different LO to standard lnbs and also does not have voltage switching for polarity and a non standard voltage is sent by box to LNB to power it. Can your meter cope with different LOs and can it cope with lower voltages than standard lnbs - if not you risk blowing the Q lnb?

I'm not sure on my meter capabilities, it is a promax explorer that i bought from a friend who used to be an aerial engineer a good few years ago, he has no idea about skyQ! Can you answer my other questions?

The easiest way would be to return to your previous 'installation' , connect up your meter to the Q lnb, and take measurements of both outputs.

I doubt the warning over meter voltage damaging the LNB is going to be accurate, but there are plenty of adverts on a general search that lead to freephone numbers of Sky installation companies, you could call them for advice before connecting up.

If you have a voltmeter, you could see what voltage the LNB output of the Sky Q box is giving out, without anything connected. Careful not to short anything though..

I had a similar problem when I moved a cable and re-terminated. checked the signal and there was a strength but no quality!!
That's when i realised something different!
As a work around I would do what you done. use standard LNB then swap back to Sky Q as the satellite alignment will be identical.
Regarding your meter set the 22 Khz tone to off and see if you can set the local oscillator to 10,45 GHz. You will need to select either a V or H frequency and the relevant SR.

Good luck

I've just found this thread... I'm new to sky Q but have been in the satellite trade for years can anyone clarify what the spec of a sky q lnb is please..
are both outputs identical or do we still have H/V and if so is it still voltage switched ?, as I'm reading this the lnb is full band so no tone switching ?, whats the LO frequency ?
I had my first system to install following a bit of building work being done and it took ages as I wasn't sure !
Thanks in advance!

The two are (or rather can be) identical and the LNB is wideband.

Did you mean the 2 that I linked to? One of which has been removed (EL021).
Studying pictures, the part numbers are EL020 and EL021.
I was just looking for one to play with and to find out if either were PLL.

Edit: See Amazon.co.uk:Customer Reviews: SKY Q LNB review part way down dated 5/4/17 for more info on part numbers etc.

and there are these: Sky Q LNB. Sky Q LNBs. 40mm clamp standard offset dish Sky q LNBs. Sky Q. Sky HD satellite. UK

No, I meant that the two outputs of the standard Q LNB carry the complete frequency range, although one is horizontal and the other is vertical I think.

Both outputs deliver H & V but the box pulls H channels off one and Vert channels off the other. These are then multiplexed to feed 12 tuners, which can in turn pick off any channel.

Correct

Both outputs deliver H & V
Not on the ones I have (EL021) H is the output closest to the feed.

Yes, all of the ones I've installed have exclusive H and V outputs.
