Setting up a Motor what angle elevation to set to?

i had a nightmare with following the manual for my motor, i recommend you set the motor to whatever the manual states, then move the dish up and down till you get a signal, then see if you can find anything else (it worked for me)

    one last try

i have a decent signal on some sats, but not on others, i'm happy with it for now, cos i'm FREEZING. i'll go up the roof again when the weather improves a litte, i have decent signal on everything from 12.5W to 28.5E, so i'm ok with that for now. got what i was looking for which was mostly...

    one last try

ok, spent about 2 hours up the roof today, getting pretty decent sinal strengths on my little needle meter, came down off the roof with the signal strength at 6 (out of 8). look at receiver, signal strength 20% (it always shows that) signal quality 0%. *grumble* somethng must have moved whle i...

    one last try

I'm givin this dish setup lark one last try before i admit defeat and pay someone to sort it for me. cheapest price i was given was just shy of a hundred quid for a dish alignment though :( o it'll probably be after easter before i've gotten cash together to get it working if i cant get it...

    install thought

good idea lancelot, i'll grab another u bolt before i start :) its on a kit lashed to a chimneystack, it's not ideal, but its somethign for now, the tree in my road is a bit of a pin, but its apparently diseased anyway, so i might be able to move the dish late rin the year if they cut it down.

    install thought

thought i'd put this in a seperate thread, as this thought has just occured to me. one of my neighbours (flat roofed terraced house) has a sky minidish installed at near roof level. i knwo it's pointed at 28.2 e, ,so, if i were ot make a large wedge of wood or card, with an angle on it of 29...

    givin it another go

no luck yet, been up the roof since ~10am, with no joy, the dish is mounted, attached to the motor now, as i figured i might as well put it all up the roof to save me hauling it up later, and i'm gonna tack the cable to the wall, and probably call local sat installer out for a "realignment"...

    givin it another go

was up the roof for about an hour and a half today, got the bracket up, and vertical on the third go. lashed round the chimney, i know i know, its not the best solution, but it's better than just leaivn it lying, and since its the only place to put it.... dish isnt up yet, i've decided i'll do...

    givin it another go

plan to make a couple of gouges in the metal as well as paint some lines when i get it aligned properly, so that i'm 100% sure of being able to find the alignnment again yeah, i knwo about changing the elevation, and know what the elevations should be for my location for the sats i'm trying to...

what ar eyou looking for in your system? wat peopel will recommend needs more info than "more performant system" are you looking for faster channel changes, more channel memory, ability to take more cards, more cams, run a 36v motor, run a diseqc motor, get analogue and digital, do you want it...

Motor causing interference to terrestrial reception

i have that exact same motor, and haven't noticed any problems with it causing interference. though, i havent had the motor mounted anywhere near the terrestrial aerial, where it's going is about 3 feet away from it, this should be "fun"

channel master 1.2 dish and DiSEqC

a lot of DisEqC motors say they will take a 1.2m dish, but with the current weather and what i've read elsewhere of the demise of many motors with only 90cm dishes on, i wouldnt think of putting anything more than 90 on a DisEqC motor. in fact i've got plans already (for later in the year, once...
