William,

Thank you for the channel list.

I have a question of you can please help? Do you still maintain the table where you listed the frequency bands per satellite? It is useful when using a TM5302/TM5502 for a blind scan as it allows selection of only frequency ranges that are operational per satellite and reduces scan time. If you still maintain the list would you please be able to upload a copy?

On the subject of a blind scan with a TM5302/TM5502, have you found much difference in transponders received using 4MHz steps or 6MHz steps? As you know, these receivers can be painfully slow and any options to speed up a scan are useful.

Many Thanks

I use 6MHz steps on most satellites when I am compiling satellite charts for 21.6 east & 3.1 east I use 3MHz steps, 10 east & 16 east 6MHz steps,

For the faster Blind Scans split the Ku band into sections,

Most productive 1st on 10 east for example:-
Blind Scan-1 10950 to 11200 H
-------------2 11200 to 11450 H &V
-------------3 11450 to 11700 H & V
-------------4 12500 to 12750 H
-------------5 12500 to 12750 V
-------------6 10950 to 11200 V
-------------7 10700 to 10950 V

William,

I am back with another question about the channel list and the TM-5502 if you can please help?

I would like to insert a couple of satellites into the channel list in between the existing satellites. For example, I would like to insert PakSat 1R at 38.0E in between 39.0E and 36.0E. If I take one of the empty satellites at the end of the list in the TM-5502 menu and edit the name and orbital position, will the TM-5502 automatically drop it into the correct sequence in the satellite lists? My hope is that it will but I fear the worst.

Last question, is it possible to get the TM-5502 to present the satellite list in reverse order so that the most Easterly satellite is the top of the list and as the list is descended the list moves towards Westerly satellites with the most Westerly at the bottom of the list. I tried messing around with the Technomate TBN editor but got nowhere except for realising what the file format is for the channel list. It is a binary file, TBN = Technomane BiNary file.

Many Thanks.

I did try the list in reverse with the original software but the DiSEqC motor control was not responsive after I got TM to sort out the Blind Scan this was an achievement as the original Blind Scan was a nightmare,

I did point out to TM that the tbn Editor was next to useless but never got any response,

There are still a few niggles with the Blind Scan when you exit the menu the last transponder polarisation is sometimes changed
So you just change it back manually,

Also using 3 & 4 MHz steps on some satellites for example 16 east 12500 to 12750 if a low symbol rate below 1600 the receiver will go into a continuous loop & add the same parameters 20 to 30 times or until you stop it,

Last problem to be aware of not all the found transponders will be scanned in the 2nd phase of the Blind Scan so if you saw the transponder added to the data base in the 1st scan just re-scan the missing transponders manually,

I did inform TM of these outstanding issues again no response :( I am just great-full that the Blind Scan is now usable,

The best way to keep the receiver working to it's best performance is to save your channel list periodically on a USB stick & save as Default Channels that actually works on the TM5302HD & TM5502HD,
Then perform a factory reset turn off the receiver at the mains for 30 sec then reload your channel list I do this about every 3 to 4 weeks or if the receiver starts to play up.

To add new satellites just modify my list,
I have begun to experiment with the feed satellites starting at East to West so it may be worth another go a re compiling the list from scratch with the latest software as the editor is useless this will have to be done manually,

I hope this info helps you.

William,

Thank you for the reply, it is very useful. I was not aware of the quirks that you mentioned. There are several plus points about these receivers in that they report the correct frequency and SR and the tuners seems to be quite sensitive. I suppose its a trade off, the good points vs the quirky points.

Many Thanks.

New list with Satellites starting @ 53 east through to 45 west with feed satellites in sequence with extra spaces at the start, middle & end of this new Satellite list made on the TM5302HD+ 88 cm dish it has taken me about 8 hours manually as the channel editor cannot perform these tasks,

I will then load this list on the TM5502HD & re-scan some satellites as this will be on the 100cm dish & issue later today.
