Yes remlap. I've tried a couple of other firmwares too to no avail.

Seems to work OK on the Raspberry Pi, so if all else fails, there's a generic tarball I could try here -

That USB tuner looks like a couple I have that have the RTL2382T2 chip - they can be used on Enigma 2 receivers for an additional DVB-T2 tuner. IIRC Black Hole has the drivers installed automatically while for Openvix it can be downloaded in the plugins section in the firmware. It's also one of the workhorses of a lot of budget SDR set ups. For its cost and performance, there's not a lot to be said against it - it doesn't compete against say a commercial £500+ SDR package but no one should expect it to either.

Been tinkering with TVHeadend, The stick seems to be registered and first time I booted with TVHeadend the Raspberry Pi recognised both demodulators. But whatever I try the damn thing won't scan anything in. I gave up and plugged it back into my windows system and removed TVHeadend.

If it's a first generation Pi that's probably because it doesn't provide enough power to be able to tune in the stick even though it recognises it (I've had this problem before with a PCTV 290e).

You'd have to use a powered USB hub to get it to work (or the newer Pi2 which I got at Christmas and seems to manage to power the DVB-T2 stick just about alright with the 1.5A USB charger plug I'm using).

I'll try to scrounge up a powered hub. It is the Pi2 though. I can see myself giving in though sadly. I don't have much use for a TVHeadend setup on DVB-T2 anyway being Freeview Lite.

Code:
2016-01-11 15:19:32.903 mpegts: 626MHz in Blaina - tuning on Realtek RTL2832 (DVB-T) : DVB-T #0

Well I have the August 210v2 working at last in Linux - of a sort, in that I'm tuning an individual channel with another DVB app, dvblast. So maybe w_scan isn't tuning each channel precisely enough?

Next is to come off the command line stuff and try a GUI app like updatelee's dvbupdate. That works fine with DVB-S/S2 with my Skystar Xpress pcie card, but doesn't tune any channels in with my TBS6220 DVB-T/T2 card, so I'm not hopeful. First though I have to recompile dvbupdate, as I've lost QT compiler since a Mint upgrade

OK, I have updatedvb GUI compiled with Qt again. It's the first time I've managed to get any DVB-T/T2 items working with updatedvb, either with a pci card or USB dongles. Always only DVB-S/S2.

This is with the PCTV 290e, BBC2 DVB-T2 ch.474. The August T210v2, although recognized in updatedvb, still obstinately refuses to tune channels.

Seems there's some work to be done with signal quality / BER indications.

Paxman seems enthralled anyway.
