..... the picture above illustrates perfectly why it's a good idea to fit an added steel bottom strengthening plate if you are going to use these excellent motors on larger dishes especially in exposed areas where high winds are possible....... there's still the possibility of stripping the cogs though with large reflectors and strong gusts. Unfortunately, been there, done that, got the T-shirt.
My two 1224's in service at the moment are only turning a CM1.2 and a 1.2 Gibertini which gives me peace of mind.
Picture shows what can happen, and did happen, to my upgraded 1224 (Jumbo) motor with a 2.2 Precision PF on it .... Mother nature can be a strong enemy when she wants to be.

true john not good for large dish in exposed area unless modified I did state
but might modify it for a 1.8

I have done them before for customers I owned fabrication shop the way to do it is to make new bottom plate on lathe once complete you use gas struts E and W to stop any back lash if I do the modification I will document it

I have never seen these for sale. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information about this motor either. Were they more study/powerful than the 1224?

I've got one of those in the next room. Will pull the manual tomorrow.

I recall the mounting shaft was cast alloy rather than mild steel and ubolts, which was a backward step.

yes cast alloy you can see it is in picture they was made before the 1224 from memory the 1224 replaced them, that was the step backwards :Dnot pulling the 1224 down great motor but the smo 36 was stronger

Well kick the cat off it and post some pictures.
Keep that to yourself! Too much information!

Were the internals the same or just the casing?

I wouldn't trust the actuator to run something beyond a 2 metre, or a 1.8 in an exposed location myself, but it is well made.
