It has been on the cards for a long time with the NHS and the way they operate (pun intended) leaves them vulnerable. Things probably have moved on somewhat since I left the game however in theory they should have virtual drives, and the data should be mirrored onto another virtual drive so they should be able to shut down all clients, delete the affected virtual drive, switch to backup virtual drive and then allow clients back on after having purged the clients before reconnecting, it all depends upon the source of the attack.

BIG problem, but, as been widely stated, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened with so many of the NHS (& other) IT systems being so "antique" and inadequately maintained.

OTOH, checked my NHS Patient Access a/c about 1/2 hr ago, and my doctor's appointment for a couple of weeks hence still seems to be valid - but whether my actual GP's system, and my prescription repeats and so, is OK is still TBD.
