Hi All

I had an engineer out yesterday to install a dish so my wife would be able to watch polsat. However when I try to search for channels I don't pick up anything. I have an Echostar DSB 717 box and when I change the search to All I pick up heaps of channels but no polsat ones. For example I put the TP 10873V and it picks the channels listed on lyngsat under that frequency. However if I put in a polish frequency I get nothing.

Many Thanks for any help

What exact channels are scanning in? It may very well be that the dish is pointing at the wrong satellite. Very easily done, since there are so many up there in a small arc of space.

I can't see any Polsat channels listed on 10873 V, according to Lyngsat, check the Cyfrowy Polsat link:
Code:

Can you please post some of the channels signal quality readings.
Also how are you scanning in the channels?

Well, you're definitely on Hot Bird, so that's a good thing. You can see these channels you scanned here - Eutelsat Hot Bird 13C at 13.0°E - LyngSat

But like Mickha says, let us know how you're scanning it and what quality readings you're getting.

That doesn't seem a very high signal quality reading, although this varies, depending on the receiver.
If the satellite engineer didn't fully align the dish, or didn't set the LNB skew correctly, then it might explain the problem.
The only way to test it is to scan in a few transponders, manually, and post back the channels you get, and the signal quality readings:
10719 V 27500 DVB-S2 8PSK 3/4
10796 V 27500 DVB-S2 8PSK 3/4
10853 H 29900 DVB-S2 8PSK 2/3

10992 V 27500 DVB-S
11054 H 27500 DVB-S

Are the LNB settings in your receiver correct?

Should be set to something like Universal, Universal 1, Universal 9750/10600.

Your Echostar receiver is DVB-S/MPEG2 only. It will not receive the vast majority of Polsat channels.

If you look here - Cyfrowy Polsat on Eutelsat Hot Bird 13B/13C at 13.0°E - LyngSat - you'll see that most are in DVB-S2 mode. Try scanning some DVB-S transponders first and that will confirm (or not) my theory.

Basically you'll need a new receiver.

ahh it might be that it is an old box

10719-nothing
10796-nothing
10853-Not listed

10992-80 strength, 55quality
11054-76 strength 55 quality

Captian Jack might be correct it is an old box so maybe out of date now

The unencrypted FTA Polsat channels are just rubbish, with Polish voice over original which drives me nuts.
Even with a valid subscription, the SD channels don't open, only HD.
You can order an nc+ box which gives you almost all the channels for a month (HD and many in original language) very cheap and then you can settle for a starter package which I find quite satisfactory. The con is that the recordings can't be copied to your PC or to another storage media.
I bought an Enigma 2 box and a CI+ Module with nc+ card included and it works perfectly, but the box must support CI+ protocol. I got it to work in the end.
Let us know your budget and if you are willing to subscribe or you just want the FTA channels.

CI+ CAMs are also available for Polsat - I pay for more or less the full package and get quite a good number of Polish channels, including SD (though some do stay closed for some reason, despite the HD versions working - like TVP ones).
