Seems clear meanwhile: 10.25°E.

Looks like it may be settling down around there

Has anyone found info on the S band beacons? Time to try inclined tracking on Ka, @John

If anyone is interested, Echostar 21 is crossing the belt at the time of posting. It's at +0.8deg, going south. Both beacon carriers are at about 15dB CNR in 1kHz on a badly set up 1.5m PF.

Edit: Plot at 1526 BST when satellite was at +0.2 deg.

Just done a quick look, looking at signals at the given orbital slot but due to only having linear V at the moment i can not clearly isolate the RHCP beacons but i do see quite a lot of activity all across the band from about 18408 to 19341. I need to establish 100% i'm looking at the right bird.

How about S-band, s-band? :D
That should be in the range 2185...2200 MHz. The similar TerreStar-1 satellite was tested with frequencies in midband (near 2193.6 MHz)

I just need a 12m dish to get the same angular resolution as on Ka. I can't see anything at the moment as it is almost max excursion. I have an RHCP feed on the S-Band LNB. That document suggests it's linear. Is it?

I could only detect it at +/-2 degrees and only find it when it was +/- 1 degree. I was using a horizontal feed. There was no problem finding it however, 1kHz BW makes it much easier and I set the Gilat to within 10kHz (it wanders +/-10kHz when the sun hits it). Go to 10E and left a bit or use 9E and left a bit more.

The signal dropped 3dB at 0.8deg off, 11dB at 1.6 deg, 14dB at 1.76, 17db at 2deg and I lost it at 2.2deg in 1khz.

@John, it's -5.5 degrees at1845 BST

@scopus Chris, swing your tackle round to 10.25 E on your 1.8 and try either V or H to see if you get any joy. If possible slip a bit of card into the throat and try and force a bit of RHCP out of the lnb.

Ok G, i'll wait a bit 'till it comes back up to the arc and have another go and i'll take a quick screengrab of the whole band to show what i'm seeing.

... Managed to find her and the beacons this morning, she's well up high at the moment. Will do another look when it's back on the arc.

..Plus, plot of whole 18GHz with nothing else present (as expected).

.. those grabs above Graham were off a Hughes DRO lnb, hopefully later today i might get the chance to swap it out with an XMW DRO lnb, i can then experiment with the Hughes feed to get me onto circular and try and confirm our uncertainties that the beacons are RHC

The reason I couldn't hear much on S was that I had destroyed the front end somehow. Now fixed. The LO is about 1997.93MHz. There is a beacon at about 2206.50MHz. I can see the Meteosat beacon at roughly the same position. There is also a noise peak around the frequency you mention, @hvdh It is quite strong for transponder noise but is it a wide band data signal?

3 plots attached. 2 of what I think may be the beacon. One of those has the tail end of something I think was from a non-geo (due to doppler). The 3rd plot is of the wide band signal or noise. Without confirmation from another source, I can't be sure it's Echostar 21.
