Can you pair an official Ѕky box and card from outside UK using the Ѕky online activation system?

I have asked this question on another forum, but perhaps there are more non-UK located members here who know if this would work.

My first thought would be no, because the online activation would probably pick up on an IP originating from abroad. I suppose using a VPN may get round this but can't be certain. I don't have a Sky box/card so can't help further, however have you thought of posting on one of the expat forums?

Thanks for replying. I searched through the expat forums and could not find a definitive answer.

Perhaps you can ask a friend or a family member living in the UK to do the activation for you.
Give them the card number and the box S/N as a minimum,
You should both be online at the same time and follow their instructions.

or do it via your "mysky" account...usually works fine

If you try via the box you need vpn / smart dns for the uk ip address to work.

Change the router name from 'La Limace et La Laitue' before you try it.

Thanks for the advice.

What is a mysky account and how does that method differ from online activation.

Its just your online portal to make changes to your account. Easy to use - if rather slow on a dire 2.5meg bb connection!!

Thanks for the information. Had a look at the mysky phone app and it seems to work in the same way as an online account on a computer (which is also confusingly called mysky).

I will try the pairing on line (ie on a computer) in a few days and report back. I will also try pairing using the box onscreen menus, will be interesting to see if that works or not.

UPDATE: I can confirm above post that I could pair my Sky card from France using the Sky online system - go to Activate my channels and login - then enter Sky box Version Number, Serial Number, Viewing Card Number & Receiver ID

But it is even quicker (takes about 10 seconds) just to put the card in the box and go to any Sky channel. Onscreen message says press ok to pair the card. This assumes the box has been updated to latest software and it is plugged into the local internet.

What does NOT work from France is any of the catch up services on the box, Sky, BBC or ITV. I assume a VPN would get round this, but have not tried.
