I'm afraid I always bin earlier configurations once I'm happy.

Kind of essential to preserve space on a 32GB SSD.

Updates onWin10 take ages to download on poor BB ( max 2.2 mb ) connections, then when it finaly completes " embedded clean disk program " deletes almost all:-doh

Sh!t happens

Just my opinion as usual.

The rollback worked fine on the "main m/c", but:
- the low- power ASUS netbook on which I write this failed the update twice and I had to (very laboriously!) completely rebuild it from scratch
- 2x Acers just "fell over" some time after W10 was installed for some reason I could not work out, and I had to reinstall W7 Pro from CD and then upgrade to W10 Pro again.

Well fwiw I did take advantage of the free upgrade ...
It currently sits in my safe ...and there it will stay until 2020 ..possibly 2023.
So as not to miss out on a freebie ...and yet not compromise my win7 ..
I raw/bit cloned the OS onto another hard drive ...and offered the clone up as sacrificial to microsoft ..
Once completed and running ...it was removed and put to bed ..and my original OS put back in the PC..

Why do you need the pro version or the home version? I have used pro version before, and so far this version of "home" does everything I need.

I guess it's each to his own.

^^^ got pro's here, reason (apart from bought pc's always having pro installed) is Bitlocker, used on external backup drives (internals got their own encrypting), and gpedit.msc were one centrally and easily can do ...'many things', for example disable\control the bloatware and os presets (see att.) But could have lived fine with home, no problem.

Windows 7/8 also spy on you with the latest updates,

Indeed, if automatic on or manually accepting all poisonous 'updates' offered by Great White Father in Redmond. Was A barrage of fire, snipers and bombs aimed at getting people to move towards the w10 trap :O)
Cooled down now and everything peaceful again, just one or two apearing every other month (they never give up).

Here's the list of attacks... (never installed any of these, stopped as they came along or reappeared, sometimes it takes work to secure one's rights and personal choices):

So, an already excellent OS made even better.

What's not to like?

It's almost on a par with Linux Mint now.

I need Windows 10 so I can work from home - I use it as a vm (I use Virtual Box) on Linux Mint or Debian and it contains absolutely no personal info or data - Micro$lurp are welcome to spy on my employer if they wish ( they practically own them in terms of data now anyway) but they cannot see anything personal of mine!! Windows is where it belongs - trapped in a sandbox ( oh, is that a cat approaching?)

Ive discovered an issue with Win10 laptops & our new PEAP protected wifi system at work. Its not just a password required like on a home router - you have to put your username in as well to authenticate you onto the system.

Its not possible to join the wifi network using win10! It keeps blanking the user field as you type. You are lucky if you get as far as starting to type your password but even if you get that far your username disappears before you finish.

Tests so far have shown the following behaviour:

Win10 - wont authenticate
Win7 - works well once you get the damn thing to connect, but its a pita to get going.
Mint 18.2 - no problem.
Android phone - no problem
Iphone - reported to be no problem
Mint 17.3 - forget it - totally doesnt work , as something is fundamentally broken in the PEAP authentication protocols.....

Ive even tried swearing at it :D

I couldnt play with it in depth as it wasnt my laptop, but I did some research about the issue & its a common problem, especially with things like school & university networks.

Quick question

I was helping a customer earlier today that had a rude awakening last month when the laptop she sent off with Win7 to a repair shop came back with Win 10 installed.

Is there a classic desktop option In the latest release (I updated from 105xx to version 150xx without seeing anything promising)

I don't mean the blue screen of death welcome btw.

To give windows 10 a "classic windows 7 look" you need classic shell, I have it installed on all of my windows 10 machines.

+1 for Classic Shell. Last time I had the misfortune to be playing with a win8 laptop CS went staright onto it to make it even halfway usable

^^^ 8 was a horrible piece of garbage. And lots of utterly stupid windows fanboys managed to praise it like it was the new messias (but got it partially right, was the messenger \ black bird omen of an evil stratagem that would be baptised 10... lol)

Just joking, we will have to live (and probably die) with ten, removing it's layer of mud (telemetry and (cr)apps etc) then adding Classic Shell and a few more things, one can make it a nice OS to run one's programs and stay in control of one's pc. Thankfully, some good guys are constantly working on \ providing the necessary tools and info.

8.1 on the other hand (with some cleanup of metro and apps, kill the constant telemetry + a few small fixes), add the excellent+++ Classic shell = a rock solid and streamlined win 7 MK2.
Security updates and support 'til 2023 :)
