Freeview or Freesat.? I can do either as the cables are already in place in the roof space. Two of the TV's have both Freeview and Freesat tuners.

Both - diplexers will cut down number of cables required.

Freesat has more channels available, and you are guaranteed to the cream of the crop, happy clappy, psychic, shopping and possibly tarot reading into the bargain.

Now you are making it complicated for me.
All you need is one in the loft fed with two cables, one cable to TV room to another diplexer and then two cables to TV. No other setup required

For Freeview are you on a main transmitter or one of the infill relays - if you are on a 3 mux Freeview Lite relay then FV is barely worth bothering with.

Dishes: 80cm (5°W), 80cm (30°W), 60cm Zone 2 (13°E/19.2°E/28.2°E)
Receivers: HTPC w/ TBS6905 4x DVB-S2 PCIe tuner card running TVHeadend, Octagon SF8008 mini.

Also to note, the picture quality is a lot better on the Freesat versions of a fair few of the SD channels, especially the likes of ITV3, ITVBe, 5USA, 5Star, My5, 4Music, 4Seven, +1s etc.

All the spin-offs of ITV/C4/C5 are in full 720/704x576i resolution on satellite, whereas on Freeview the ones above (along with pretty much everything else that isn't BBC or ITV/C4/C5 main channels) is in blurryvision 544x576i and looks super soft and pixellated.

Having said that, as an aside I prefer Freeview when it comes to recording stuff on my HTPC - all the five main HD channels (BBC1/BBC2/ITV/C4/C5) are on the same frequency so only require one tuner to record however many of them as you want at the same time!

I would say go Freesat only. That is the way it is going I think. The UHF spectrum that Freeview is on is gradually going to mobile phone companies with this year or in the next two years or so all the muxes are going towards the 21 to 45 UHF part of the band. It is only a matter of time before all the Muxes on Freeview are closed down. In a few years from now all TV aerials may be obsolete.

I guess it would also depend on what freeview muxes you would get.

My local transmitter is Stockland Hill, that is a “freeview lite” transmitter and not the full line up.

When in the UK I have the opportunity to use both so do. I find I can get some things on one which I cant get on the other both ways around which is useful. I also like the HD on Freesat and the opportunity to view other regions if I want. All in all if you can get both easily then use both.

Don't forget the streaming option, if you have a Smart TV.

A few of my customers have never actually connected the dish/aerial cable to their new screens.
