As per title C4HD and All4 will leave Freesat on Thursday 22nd.

No news yet whether it will stay FTA - if it does then another broadcaster has decided Freesat's EPG charges are not value for money.

What's the best option these days for HD twin tuner with 1TB+ HDD with access to the SKY and Freesat EPG data? That's if 4HD stays FTA.

Wow - if that's true, that's a big step backwards.

As HD is now mainstream, shirley it's time for Ofcom to strengthen the rules and oblige PSBs to provide EPG access to thir HD versions in the same way as for SD ..... times are changing.

The last part of that paragraph is definitely the most intriguing question, knowing how this country works they will probably pull it and leave a version on shitty $ky.

Letter in today's Torygraph:

Given that Channel 4 is, in effect, a public-service broadcaster, why is it allowed to remove its HD broadcasts from the Freesat service?

(We know why - Ofcom currently only insists upon the SD versions being available on all platforms - but this policy really ought to be updated now HD is mainstream)

The same rules are supposed to apply to ITV-2HD,ITV-3HD & ITV-4HD but Adam Crozier who came from the The FA & the Post office decided that they will be encrypted & nobody opposed him on this decision I thought we lived in a democracy ?

ITV 2 / 3 / 4 HD were created solely to benefit from the Sky payouts for HD channels. It was an attempt to introduce a new revenue stream in an era of falling advert revenues.

Without the Sky $$$ there would not be any ITV 2 - 4 HD services.

Also of the ITV family of channels, it is only the primary ITV/ (UTV/STV) channel that has PSB commitments. The same concerning Channel 4 and Channel 5, only the primary channel of each network has PSB commitments.

In my underwhelming opinion, I reckon it's time for Ofcom to designate the primary channels of ITV, 4 & 5 to have "universal access" broadcasting at HD resolution the same way it is presently done for SD, with a view for the SD requirement to be given a sunset date at the same time or that one is to be put in place in the future.

German TV is leading the way ATM with Free to air via satellite MTV,Skysports News HD & SD,Eurosport 1 :)

All National & Regional TV is FTA in HD :) except RTL :(

Eurosport 1HD temporary for the Olympics :)

The chances of British Eurosport becoming FTA on any platform is remote

Long gone are the days when we could watch the analogue versions of Eurosport FTA with English sound track on 13 east Hotbird & 19.2 east Astra:(

Channel 4 HD will be missed by a lot of folk living in the remote areas of the UK that cannot receive the FreeView & Cable versions of channel 4HD with a 40" to 60" TV screen the SD picture is very poor by comparison

Still working FTA on Satellite in HD via all my other boxes so looks like it has just left the FreeSat menu :)

So you can add channel 4 HD on your FreeSat box if the menu allows you to.

Does the Raydon Firmware grab SKY or XMLTV EPG?

Neither.

Just Now and Next .... all that Raydon does in this instance is copy the Non-Freesat mode entry across to the Freesat EPG display.

It just saves having to change modes to get eg C4HD , Euronews and, historically, Vintage TV, nothing more.
