Yes, alternative Browsers to the mainstream are ten a penny but, having had a few problems (largely resolved now) with both Pale Moon and Firefox, I have been playing with Vivaldi.

It's developed by a former Opera guy (Not Pavarotti) and I've found it to be lighting fast, hugely well-featured and capable of using Chrome Add-Ons.

I've been so impressed, it's now set as Default.

Do try it.

Seconded. I've been using it for over a year on OSX 10.9.5, Linux & Windows. With Ublock Origin, Ghostery and sometimes script blocking it gives clean browsing. I had trouble with Youtube and other video as it needs the latest plug-ins and my blocking has to be backed off a bit.

The only thing I can't find is a decent RSS Reader. Other than that, it's really very good indeed.

I too favour Ublock Origin over ABP.

Well, it's soooo much better in every respect than Pale Moon that I've uninstalled the latter.

Been testing it for a short while, 1st impression = very good! Lots of useful settings, loads pages fast.

Am a diehard FF user, some extensions I (think I) can't live without + old habits. Other browsers tested have been forgotten quite quickly for many reasons, but this version of Vivaldi seems a different beast, worth extra test time and evaluation.

I've kept Firefox installed "just in case", but I've been pleasantly surprised that there is nothing I need that Vivaldi can't do.

And it renders far quicker than Firefox Quantum, which is the clincher.

ahhh... 1st annoyance, page scrolling with mouse\touchpad, vivaldi choppy \ small definite steps (like ie & chrome here) vs FF smooth as melted butter, no perceptible steps whatsoever. Anyone else sees this? FF simply better in that dept.?

Very slightly rougher than FF, but I'll take that, given the speed of rendering.

Surely that's the trade-off? Smoother rendering indicates smaller steps which take more time?

Thanks for info, so it's not my laptop(s). But as am always doing lots of scrolling and little page up\down etc, the FF behavior is quite important here. Apart from that, Vivaldi very prositive.

I've got Vivaldi on my touch-screen Win 10 Tablet, so scrolling is also heavy-duty.

Well, been running it for over three weeks now and can't seriously fault Vivaldi.

Best Browser I've ever used.

^^^ Agree, it's excellent. Found addons I needed, and it behaves great. Made me drop \ uninstall chrome, which I used as 2nd browser.

But there is still one big But, in my case Vivaldi's line by line scrolling. My reason to continue with FF, I don't know what FF does to make it so smooth, the others should copy that !

Have you gone to Tools/Settings/WebPages and ensured Smooth Scrolling is enabled?

^^^ tried everything possible (I believe), can't get rid of it.
FF surely also uses some scrolling steps, but probably 10x or more better resolution = completely fluid to my eyes.

@4wd the smooth-scrolling seems much improved.
