My TV is away for repair and I thinking of buying an HD STB - any suggestion for what the "best" HD receiver is at the moment? A Vu+

I still have a motorised dish but have been using a Panasonic TV connected to the dish for the last year or so (must get around to selling my old Dreamboxes..).

2x HDMI outs would be very useful, any else is a bonus. No need for CS, hard drive would be a plus, as would DNLA.

Open to suggestions :-)

You cant go wrong with any of the VU boxes. Vu Solo 2 highly recommended.

Much as I loath the O/S on my Duo its a capable enough box. I fitted an internal hdd with minimum problems, and I have mapped a drive letter from the computer to the hdd so I can drop media files onto it.

Ive got my Tivusat cam & card in it - theres a minor problem with the box occasionally losing track of the cam & saying its not there but you just reinsert it.

Duo 2 is a good rec if you can afford it. Nice quad tuner rec if you install a second twin tuner. Also will take up to 4tb drive. Got mine last November. Still haven't taken it out of its box as I see no point hooking it up until I have a dish installed.

Thanks for the input :) I am wondering if a Vu+ solo/ Duo is overkill for FTA. Are there older Vu HD receivers that are worthy of consideration (and cheaper)? Also looking at Technomate TM Nano 2 (running VIX).

Depends on your Budget the latest single tuner Vu Zero is around £99 delivered if you look around and is a competent enough receiver for the price, Personally i would steer clear of the Solo/Duo both now clocking on for over 5 years old and the processing power in them is no match for todays receivers

Cheers :-) The TM Nano2 is looking like the top contender for me at the moment, £70 cheaper than the Vu+ solo2 and has much the same specs.

Go for a dual tuner if your budget extends to it. Vu+ Solo 2 for £140. Don't know if I am allowed to give the link here?

Please dont post links to shops that arent sponsoring the forum - its not fair on our supporting advertisers (without the sponsors there wouldnt be a forum - paying the hosting & bandwidth fees on a site this big isnt cheap). If its an ebay sale then post the item number.

For that sort of money it will not be an Original but most certainly 100% a Clone just not worth the hassle

Vu+ Uno is also a very capable box and sits in between the older Solo/Duo and the current range of "2s". Can be fitted with a dual tuner module.

It was American so you would be adding on tax and shipping costs.

With the new updated Blackhole Image from 2.1.4 now on 2.1.5. Its helped with memory problems on the original Duo`s I`v had mine (a Duo) some years and its still going strong with a 1TB internal HD in. It gets flashed with new version of BH when it comes out. (Once a week it might crash if says updating EPG) but once it reboots its great again christ even S@y boxes do now and again and you have to switch of and reboot. I can live with that.

Its hooked up to my 47" 3D Panasonic and works a dream. Im not changing it till it really dies a death
