Watching this via DVB Dream and HDMI into a Samsung TV so presumably some form of downscaling going on but even so the video quality is stunning! Like jaw dropping sharp.

Does this require an i7 processor as a minimum spec?

Don't know, I'm using an AMD FX 8370 so probably similar to an i7. I had to use the LAV codec throughout to get it working.

I have a small collection of UHD screenshots, I do not know if a thread is already open,
I post it here if interested (PS: to be deleted if not appropriate in this thread or already posted)

I saw a curved 4k demo tv in our local Currys just before Christmas - and yes the picture quality of the screen was pin sharp. I do wonder how good it would with your average satellite tv transmission though.

From what I've read, a 4K TV does an excellent job of upscaling a good 1080p source, like BluRay, so you apparently get a better picture on these 4K TVs that on a similarly sized "Full HD" one.

Of course, I don't have buckets of cash to prove the theory!

I setup and wall mounted a friends 8500 series Smasung 4K last year and to be honest even after a slight calibration with a THX demo disc i could not see the difference between a 1080p blu ray and the same source upscaled to 4K, Personally i dont see the point of adding more processing to something which should be seen at 1920x1080p anyway. its pretty much the same gimmick as a HD Tv upscaling an SD source ( A good one mind ).

On the subject of 4K i have yet to see any broadcast satellite channel or even terrestrial channel come anywhere near Blu Ray Quality yet the manufacturers seem to be forcing us onto 4K with its 3x greater resolution, I say why dont you give us Full 1920x1080 Blu ray resolution on broadcasts instead of trying to force us onto another format which eventually will see the same sort of resolution (Watered Down Crap) that so called HD does now on broadcast channels.

Just my 2 cents

I totally agree, digi. Like you say, I find it very gimmicky and for 95% of people, a good 1080p quality source is more than enough. It's the same with 3D malarkey that noone really cares about but I can see there being a bit more interest in the 4K. However, unless you have a massive living room with space for a huge TV, then and only then, can a 4K source be justified.

I suppose it will be good for commercial places like pubs and such but...

I am still quite happy watching a GOOD SD source on my 37" TV. French channels are still sending decent quality SD.

Plenty of 4K TVs on display in Finland which all look very nice but until there are some 4K channels with programmes I want to watch I'm not really interested. Personally I'm hoping Sky launch 4K pay channels soon and then make the HD ones available at no extra cost. ;) I'm still not prepared to pay extra for HD and quite happy to watch Sky SD and FTA HD.

HD stuff on Sky does look nice. Recent Attenborough's Conquest of the Skies on Sky One HD was very good indeed.

The only real minus (other than cost!) is the fact that HD stuff takes up quite a bit of space on our box, which is a nearly 5 year old 500Gb affair. Works fine, though, so no reason to change it.
