concerns about the total weight of the motor and a possible lnb cluster of 4 , including a chunky C-band unit, hanging out on the end of the support boom.
Agree with that. It is not good idea to hang much weight at the end of bottom feedarm. So, we should think about reinforcing bottom feedarm and maybe fixing it not to the bottom of the dish but to the backplate of the mount.

Agreed , ...... shame we had to pick this time of the year to do this lol, it's been pretty cold and wet here for a week or so now :)

Seems that I am ready to attach this "fire-breathing three-headed dragon" to the motor. Only one small obstacle- can not find Diseqc motor (I remember I had two of them, but perhaps they are ~2000 km from me now  ). Some screws should be shortened or replaced by shorter screws, will do that sometime. Ku-band LNBs have 44* separation now, however they can be placed at 36* to leave more space for C-band LNB (which I do not have ATM).

Have another step in this project - motor attached. There is 45mm extension of the motor axis, perhaps it can be shorter, we will see.

Yes, I think that if motor is behind the dish and its rotation axis is under new feedarm than overall weight will not be so dangerous.

.... Nice drawing, that's exactly what i had in mind. I'm 80% made my mind up that i will go with far boom end mounting especially now that i have the substantial rear of dish bracing.... BUT, you never know lol.

Nice drawing
Thanks. It is actually precise drawing of CM 1,8m . I would be happy to receive disagreements to numbers of dimensions, angles etc.
And one more possible benefit of placing motor behind the dish..... it might work like counterweight for polar-mount. If necessary, it can be located even further behind the dish and make bigger counterweight effect.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Today I finished the new Fibo lnb changer for 6 different lnb positions .

The feedarm with the equipment has a load of 5.5 kg .

Just for the movie I attached a Subreflector from a Fibo 90 to it .

If it was my invention I would have installed the motor vertically and had the feeds/LNBs rotating radially, which would give you a natural balance above the pivot (think Vickers No 1/K top loader Drum VickersK.jpg as opposed to Thompson submachine installed sidways,Thompson.jpeg as used by Mr Spock) but nevertheless, an excellent few hours of workshop and beermat technological prowess.

.... I suppose there would have to be some sort of universal joint though at the top end to transfer the angles which might make the assembly a bit sloppy / weak ??.
I used to use a counter-balance on the back of my 2.2 Precision which i still have somewhere, perhaps it might get used on the 1.8 ?

That would bring more weight at the end of the feedarm , things we tried to avoid .

I think that something like that could do the work.

So, will go for something like this ParabolaCM180cmMotorBack.jpg And made new sector for rotator. This time 3mm plate used and 7 bits will be welded to it. IMG_20151130_204551 (Custom).jpg

You should make some more units:-) I know a few of us would be interested in it.

When do you think you will be able to test it properly?
