"R" means Circular LNB is needed to get signals. Universal LNB with inserted polarization plate could also work.

The orbital position 44.5 Wed east was parked telecommunications satellite Nimiq 1. Currently operating three transponders, two of which can be received in the region of Central Europe.
3 transponders on the satellite Nimiq 1 operates in the 12.2 to 12.3 GHz and with circular polarization - namely clockwise. Transponders can be tuned without depolarization plate with a parabolic relatively small size.

They were just called Test 1...4 earlier today.
ITU indeed has Arabsat registration for the 44.5 East position.
So after Hellas Sat, another sat taken over by the Arab.

So presumably they needed to activate their slot to stop its rights expiring and they have leased whatever is available.

Haven't really tried yet to fully understand what it says here, with all these abbreviations.

It's interesting that most reports (further east than me) have 12253 as the weakest one, while here and at nelson_b, it is the strongest one by far. Only one footprint is known (covering North America originally at 91 West).
With my normal linear LNB, it peaks at 2 or 3 dB intermittently, it shouldn't take much bigger dish I guess, but I have little hope it will ever lock with my 100 cm.

Interesting - with the polariser plate nelson_b should get an even stronger signal.

Not a chance here on the Fibo as it's behind the trees. No point trying on the Penta.

just found and tried the original channel master feed polarising slab
and it makes no difference at all - to the transponder that i,m getting ?
and still not a trace of the other two

regards --

edit -- signal strength remains the same on H or V with or without the plate ?

nelson_b, never mind using a polarising plate, without interfering signals of the opposite polarisation (L) there would be little gain anyway (1, maybe 2 dB at best).
Strange thing is, TLE has Nimiq 1 consistenly at 44.5 East, while many report best reception at 44.0 East.
Over here, the 12253 is highest at about 44.2 East (but without lock it's harder to determine).
Some maybe also play with the dish direction, with or without the plate.

I found the footprint from the last position of nimiq 1
I guess the narrow northwest part of it is now over Spain, because here I get a good signal from all 3 active tansponders.

Source ? I'm looking for details how strong they are and where exactly they are being received.

A contributor on our Facebook page.

I put up all sorts of channel tips for folk to have a look at as new satellites come on air or something interesting happens.

Thanks. I will ask him more. I really wonder if the beam just was shifted towards the MENA region or reshaped.
