How much of actual South African - made programming is shown in the C Band package @ 68,5e? Channels like M-net, M-net series, do they show South African soap operas, documentaries, entertainment; or is it only an internationalised version showing dvd box office and Hollywood series? Thanks in advance.

Tecatel is a manufacturer based in Spain. I'm not sure if they produce inside the country but their dishes as far as i've read from several people in Greece are of high quality and surely worth the money.

Aris is just a greek relabeling for Famaval, a portuguese dish manufacturer. Most people i came along say they are very effective dishes and also worth for the money. Though there are some opinions that it's better to invest in a professional dish which does cost much more.

Nearby Airports can be a problem indeed. I have heard much about planed blocking the signal for a very short time (longer if the air corridors are often overcroaded as in Athens) but what you mean fantom007gr might be interference. Do you know if Eleftherios Venizelos Airport East of Athens uses terrestrial C-Band for communication ? I would have thought that only VHF is used by plane-tower communication.

For C-Band you will need a receiver that can change the LOF to 5.15GHz. I am not sure if invertion still is needed but most today's receivers should be C-Band compatible since made in Asia this band is a must for millions of people.
The LNB should be preferrably cover the full band 3.4-4.2GHz and it's much more easily to install a flanged LNB in a Prime Focus Antenna on its feedhorn. In Offset Antennas this might become a big problem because you will have to know the exact f/D of the dish to find a suitable feedhorn. Otherwise you will lose a lot of signal.

the nterfierance it is becouse of the blocking of the signal that the dish sees from the satellite.it is becouse the planes come in between the line of the dish and the satellite.the airport uses vhf and uhf for communication.
the dishes is one solid pease and compared with the channel master 300cm polyester or 240 cm in 4 pieces they give better resalts in the reception signal.the feedhorns they can help alot but they need a lot of work and expierments.
the mcsa channels they need them here just for the sports.
both english people and greeks that the used to live in south africa.
thebest cobination to score a good reception is a dish of 240 at least and in one piece and a good american lnb.that means aditional feedhorn for your prime focus dish.you can not find easily.
corotors and combined reception c and ku band it will give you loses.
try then to cut the chinise feed horn from your chinise lnbf and work it to fit it in the american lnb .the chinise lnbf it will cost you 25 euros and the american lnb 200 euros.costly hobby my friends.

Do you have to have the DStv decoder in order to watch multichoice channels?Or you can use their card /cam with any receiver?

I have a DSTV PVR Decoder, however I can not get it to work, must be that the signal is to weak. At present I am using a general decoder with the DSTV card. It works fine, however battle with channels on the 3836 freq.

I have a friend comming out from SA and I wil ask him to bring out two high quality lnb's out with him. Maybe I will then get the system to work with the DSTV PVR decoder.

Cheers

Hi

You get the usual DSTV Africa channels, which is slightly different to the to the South African version, so you do not get the following:

SABC 1,2 & 3 (However you do get SABC Africa)
E-TV
The Afrikaaner channel

All the sports are the same SS1 to SS7 & ESPN (This is my main reason fotr wanting the sysytem as everyting is live, all football, rugby, cricket, golf , tennis, F1, Moto GP, etc. etc.

I think it is one of the more comprehensive services around, with a really good mix + All Movies & Live sports are un-interupted (no ads)

Cheers I hope this helps

Peter

Hi Guys,

It sounds like you all undestand more about these things than I do, sorry not a specailist in these things.

Presently I receive DSTV from IS/7, however do not receive all the channels, in early 2007 when we had the system installed we received all, but in early 2008 certain channels on certain frequencies deteriorated. From what I understand it becuase is that the satellite has deteriorated. Interestingly enough these channels started working for a week last week, weather had also changed over this period, maybe the reason.

It is a bit difficult with the local installers to change the setup as they are only used to systems related to Nilesat and the like, so I do not have a clue as what I sould request them to do. When I do get them out they play with the LNBF for hours and eventually all works, but this only lasts for a few hours.

I am using a Dragon decoder 3300, single LNBF and 1.8m dish.

I also have a configured DSTV PVR Decoder + matching card + Signal in Splitter which I broght out from South Africa, however it does not pick up any signals when doing a scan, maybe it is because it requires two LNB's or the signals in this part of the world is to weak for it?

I will appreciate any advise on installation or set up?

Thanks a lot much appreciated.

Peter
Dear Peter,

Could you please tell me the source in South Africa where I can get a Multichoice C Band Smart Card?

I have been living in Zambia and recently moved to Sudan. The Ku band is almost impossible in this area (near Darfur). I have a 2.2mtr dish with a C band LNB. I am getting Intelsat with good signals and am able to receive the free to air channels on it.

I have a Multichoice digital receiver, only need a "C Band Smart Card" and subscription. I would appreciate your assistance. If you don't mind please write me back to my eamil (jagzm2006@yahoo.com) as well

Many thanks in advance, with regards

J Nair

Hi,
In Pakistan we have this issue of C-Band interference because of Wimax. Most of the time, following of these two methods work: (Please note I'm getting IS10 C Band with these two methods), other reasons of interference could be airport, radars, etc as mentioned by deepbluesky.

1. Moving dish to a place where dish is hidden from interfering object like Wimax tower (information is available on this link (_http://www.satsig.net/satellite/reducing-interference-satellite-tv.htm)

2. Installation of LNB (I'm using this one _http://www.eurostar-digital.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=135&Itemid=187). Please note your receiver should allow changing TP information for few Vertical frequencies like for 3863 V you have to subtract 600 from the frequency i.e. this frequency should be entered as 3263 V.

For second method LNB is important may be it has some filter in it or you can try some band pass filter between your C-Band LNB and Feed horn.

Regards.

Hi J,:)

Have you checked yourself if the Ku band South Africa beam is receiveable or not in Darfur? I would like to know how strong that beam is in northern Africa and Arabia.
