Well we may loose some satellites if this hits us dead on, today a large solar flare was detected on the Sun, this one looks to be heading our way, if it is large enough it could knock out some of the older less shielded satellites.

It could also cause some power distribution problems on the AC power grid, and radio communication drop outs, the link below will track the strength of this flare, if the green line gets above the dotted line, we could have some problems.

But on the plus side we may see some pretty lights in the sky. ;)

Already saw a brief glimps of the aurora last week fighting the Helsinki light pollution. Will be on the lookout again in the coming days.

I have my aluminum foil hat ready, also the lead lined underwear, just in case.

At time like these I wished I lived in the north.... but would rather be in northern Scandinavia for this and some lovely fluffy white stuff.

"" but would rather be in northern Scandinavia for this and some lovely fluffy white stuff. ""

Lovely fluffy white stuff ( locally called snow ) generally appears in late november at my location and usually disappears in late april, it comes in various amounts 1-2 cm 0r 20 -30 cm usually overnight, it comes in various forms also dry and light or wet and soggy.
Prefer the dry and light as it only takes me 2 hours to clear access to the main road for the car ( ~150 meters ) with the snow blower.
Wet and soggy up to 3 days or ring my neighbour to clear with his tractor ~30 minutes.

You welcome to clear the lovely fluffy white stuff.

If ever in this locality.

Regards

Macedonia has had the tag FYROM for the last 20 years (Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia)

I guess we could use the initials for Former United Kingdom should the unexpected happen next week. Lets see that would be...... oh maybe not :D

Just pray they don't make 'National Dress' compulsory or AS will have a chill wind round his azimuth mount....

For the past 15 mins or so the sky over Helsinki has had a green tint, but nothing much to get excited about and easily mistaken for light pollution. Easier to see on camera than with the naked eye.
