The old thread has run its course so now lets concentrate on Astra 1N testing and eventual entry into service at 28E

Astra 1C is fairly close to the arc at the moment if anyone wants to check position of 2E. Strongest signal here is 11250H 3000 IDing as Sittingbourne Dogs Path 1 (Main (data) but you'll need to be quick.

It's just that the TLE is out of date. The satellite put the brakes on at 1.8ºE, but n2yo still has it moving east at 1.5º/day.

Are you sure that's not from 1C?

Well I think 1C was out of my range at the time of scanning, and there's nothing on the carriers when checking TSReader. Would feeds just transmit continuous blank data? I checked them for over an hour or so.

Llew, it depends what time you checked. At the moment the ascending node of 1C is around 06:35 UTC. Right now it is about 3º north. There are always active carriers around those frequencies but I can't say exactly where. I've got inclination control on my Fibo but that dish is too small for 1C here so I can't check right now. I can see a few carriers on or near 2.8ºE around those frequencies.

Just out of curiosity.Don't forget there's also Eurobird at 28.2 E. Does Eutelsat have an exclusive over that part of spectrum? Does that mean Astra 1N(and the future new Astras) won't be able to switch on the frequencies overlapping with those of Eurobird?

There was a legal case about this about a million years ago. Both Astra and Eutelsat claimed the slot so it ended up being shared. AS knows the details.

Llew, read inclined birds, it's got lots of info about the carriers on 1C.

Yes, I'm aware of that thread Huevos. Have often posted screenshots of feeds from 1C.

It was only because I couldn't see any data on those TP's that I mentioned them. You're probably correct on it being 1C anyhow as I don't see anything now, as 1C is nearly at its maximum positive inclination.

OK, a nice strong analogue carrier around 1.8E on 12490V -

Eutelsat have exclusive use over their frequency bands, thanks to a legal agreement from about 25 years ago.

basically both SES & Eutel claimed the 28E slot, and refused to back down. After many court cases the frequency band was divvied up to give both operators access to the slot.

Don't get anything like yours, must be different modes, as you say.
