I live in Athens and I know no one who has installed a dish capable of receiving 2D. A technician friend of mine has told me that you need something larger than 5 meters.

The best place in Greece for the reception of 2D is of course the island of Corfu and surpise, surprise Rhodes. In both of these places you are fine with a dish along the lines of 2.5 max 3.0 (together with a sensitive receiver)

Yes in Crete they have managed to receive 2D however after trying 35 lnbs (in a case that I know) and after having to overcome a lot of problems. Nevertheless I think that they cannot receive both polarities.

It looks like a nightmare to me if Channel 4 decides to drop vide*guard and move to 2D (are there any available tps there to accomodate them ??!!)

My Satellite Setup
Technisat S1 Digicorder
80cm dish with Rotorsat DiSEqC1.2 drive
My Location
uk lattitude 53 deg and a bit
I get excellent signals on 13E and 19.2E and (since relocating the dish to avoid an offending tree) even 28.5E but the one with free to air BBC and ITV channels seems to be more difficult. The on screen signal quality indicator flickers very quickly between 3dB and 8dB but is never stable long enough for the rest of the channel seeking procedure to be carried out. My dish is 80cm mesh and the receiver is a Technisat digicorder S1. I frankly dont know what the LNB is but the dish is mounted on a Rotorsat HH100 DiSEqC drive. It is remote from the TV and difficult to fiddle especially when I dont know which adjustment would be the likely cause/cure of this problem. Can any help be suggested?

The information i have about 2D reception in Athens is rather old. There was somebody with a 3.70m and he got very weak reception for some hours. He was located anywhere in Attiki but unfortunately lost contact and so have no further info. The info about 5m is from http://www.msg-shop.gr/ and about 3 years old. 2D in Rhodes starts indeed on 2.40m for the V's and the first H's appear on 3.70m. In Corfu it's the opposite. H's from 2.40m and above and V's on 3.70m+ although i haven't seen anywhere bigger than 3m, neither on Pantokratoras mountain where they had some Fuba many years ago outside of the monastery. Latter is what i have read in greek boards. I cannot confirm if it's 100% correct since there is no person i know there. The Hilton in Kanoni is surely a good point to start asking. In Cavos there were some rumours that the V's can be gotten on 3m Channel Master (there are 2 of them as far as i remember) but personally i doubt that very much.
For Crete, i recommend to contact Antonis Zacharioudakis. He is one of the experts. He also posted pictures of his measurements on the 6m but i don't remember where they were.

Likvid i'll try to find it out and let you know. I don't remember that there was any discussion about Suman (What manufacturer is this by the way ?) . Could this be a Patriot as well ? I rather believe this was it.

Suman makes great antennas and they are located in China, surprise surprise for being made in China :-worship

They are famous for their special feed they invented and many broadcasters use their antennas as they perform very good and have a pretty good price.

I only have prices for their dishes up to 3.70m Cassegrain.

RECEIVER: HUMAX iCord HD
DISHES: 65CM, 100CM, 150CM
My Location

Receiving Astra 2 with a Gibertini 1.50m offset dish. LNB is a 40mm Universal Edision Twin 0.2db. I have two receivers HD, Digibox by Thomson and one Humax. HDCI 2000. No pixellization whatsoever at any time on the BBC and BBC HD, ITV channels and also every free to air channels of Eurobird 1, Astra 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D. I also receive the North Beam on Astra 2B which transmits channel 4 & 5. Good signal all of the time (day & nightfall). But the signal of Discovery Channel HD isn’t the better at around 1 am with bad weather. BBC HD for example, is at 88% Signal Quality. The other beams from Eurobird 28.5ºE (S1 & Fixed Beam) are also with a very good signal. I receive every channels of Eurobird 1, Astra 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D. Hope this helps for who lives around the Alentejo (South of Portugal) area.

That helps me a lot... I live in Lisbon and needed to know what size the dish has to be to pick up the Astra 2D signal.
Thanks

To Astra 2D in Lisbon, you need one dish (137cmx125cm) for every channels. In Portugal you can shop in h**p://sat25.com/lojav2/antena-satelite-137cm-p-42.html

Is anyone able to receive Astra 2D in Dubai or any where in the UAE? If so what equipment (Dish size, receiver and LNB...etc) is being used and what channels of Astra 2D can be received?
Many thanks

My Satellite Setup
2.4cm petalised prime focus dish.
Invacom c120 with feedhorn.
Pace ds440n Pace 2600 receiver also a Silver Crest BDA SL65 receiver
My Location
La Marina 15k south of Alicante, Spain
I recently installed a petalised prime focus 2.4m dish on my roof terrace along with an Invacom c120 twin & feed horn, did not have any luck at all trying to tune in a Pace ds445nb but did manage to tune in a Silver Crest satellite reciever, no BBC2 but was working OK.
Unfortuantly due to local licencing laws had to take it down (was too big up there anyway)
I have since moved the setup to a friends villa in the country bolted to a concrete base on the ground, I have setup the dish using a Horizon HDSM satellite meter to Astra 28.2e signal reads about 86% and quality reads 100%.
Using a new Pace 2600 and changing the default transponder 12129v and 12441v the later seems to work best and once scanned loads a full epg but when I click on any of the bbc or itv programs I get no no signal detected, I do get a few channels but not many all seem to be the ones available on the South beam.
If I revert back to the trusty old Silver Crest receiver I get a lot more channels but still no BBC or ITV 'O'-red.
I have read that the Invacom quad is better than than the twin, will it really make that much difference or should I stick with the twin.
Your help would be gratefully received.:):)

Does the dish look like this? If so, give up any hope of receiving Astra 2D as these dishes are notorious for poor performance, rust, and general crappiness.
It is also not receiving the north beam to properly load the EPG from the default transponder.
At best they are the equivalent to a good 1.5m offset, at worst they work only as well as a 1.0 metre dish.
Unfortunately, the Pace 445 has a very poor tuner for use in Spain, which hasn't helped. The Pace 2600 is much better.

I have come across that dish twice over here.It must be the worst type made. Both assembled by the owners. The first left it free standing and by the time I went there to align it,it fell forward and nearly folded in two.I manged to straighten it but, like you say,it is equal to a (deformed) 1.5m offset.
The second also assembled by the owner had an offset lnb forced into the bracket, and he had already fixed the dish to the ground before he knew which way to point it. It was a very hot day and I said I would come back another day with the right lnb and feedhorn but I forgot.;)

Thanks for all replys, I had a feeling I had been sold a turkey, but as I have had this tuned in resonably well before moving it only about 5k to a fiends villa I have to keep trying with it and will get the Invacom quad to see if that makes the difference that I need.
Thanks again

An Invacom quad is only slightly better than the twin, so if you're getting no Astra 2D now, changing the LNB is likely to be a waste of time and money.
The best you can hope for is to clean up reception of the north beam in order to load the EPG properly.
