Ok, I know she's not actually at 28.2E, but what the heck!

New Topic to continue the healthy, wide-ranging and informative discussions of Parts 1 & 2 and the child-Topics.

Part 2 has got a bit unwieldy and the start of 1N's transition to 19.2E this afternoon seems like a good opportunity to refresh the Topic.

Is there any chance these moves could benefit UK viewers currently with weak reception? We have a wall of protected woodland whose summer leaves kill maybe half of all 28 degree channels for half the year.

BBC, ITV,C4 etc are usually strong enough to survive that in dry weather, and I read this may be due to their tight UK focus. Might the changes bring such field strength to any more channels?

(Apologies if this is slightly off topic - I didn't think it merited a thread of its own. Commiserations to all expats who've lost their TV service).

ses.com is showing that 2E is not going to move any closer to 28.2E over the next seven days. As all the dishes pointed at this orbital location also receive satellites as far West as 28.5E (for Eutelsat) it could be 2E is actually already at its final position. So, my question is this. Is now the right time to get my dish optimsed for 2E/2F or should I be waiting a couple of more weeks?

I'd wait until 28A is cleared out. If 2E is going to move slightly, it'll probably be done after that.

But, as you say, perhaps 2E won't move anyway.

If I were you, I'd rely upon observation and reports for your planning, not on what might (or might not) be inferred from the ses.com site.

10862 H is active again, now with SR 27500 and FEC 2/3. There is a test channel "3807", I think it was Sky Sports HD1 by looking at the epg.

Edit: now signal gone

Very strange you have seen SR 27500 on this frequency!

I suppose that the best option would be to wait until 2G arrives and all the musical channels has finished. Before 1N set off, you had 2F and 2E at either end of the four. The question is, will 2G take 1N's slot or will they shuffle 2E in a bit and stick 2G on the end?? Decisions, decisions. :confused

As you can see, this is a highly technical answer which tells you absolutely nothing. :-lol

Well. I am definitely NOT waiting for that. It could be years away if 2G launch has similar problems to 2E (she could even crash and burn for all we know). I can cope with Sky Demand for a couple of weeks more. Surely any repositioning of 2E will occur before 2C moves.

If it is 2/3 FEC it will be 8PSK.

Maybe all on Astra 2A and E28A will go onto 2C as soon as she relocates.

Not enough room for the E28A channels to fit on 2C as the 2C bands are already in use by other satellites. Most of 2A is now in band F which 2C can't really do either. So if 2C was to be used in any meaningful way it would either need to take a lot of the 2E Europe channels (or switch off the 2E/2F UK beams and that's certainly not going to happen).

That's interesting. So basically 2C will be a backup. Maybe 2A and E28A will remain until we get 2G then.

Yeah the biggest problem is 2C can do the 2E and 2F spot beam bands so not much use except for in an emergency since 2C doesn't have spot beams that we know of and it can also do band E where 2A was used a lot but then 2E took over many of those frequencies the other week so it would be odd if they where to transfer again to 2C in such a short time. It would have made more sense for 2E to have taken over the 1N PE1 frequencies and 2C to take over 2A but it doesn't look like that is going to happen.
