@M60 are you next project of astra 2b or 5b ?
No unfortunately!! Just throwing ideas in to the pot but it seems we now know where 2B is heading. I'm just happy to finally see 2E shifting position, as are many others on here (home and abroad), keen to find out what it's spotbeams are like for drop-off.

I guess that most of you by now has figured out that SES is the secret sponsor of
the Channel 4 programs "Location, Location, Location" and "Relocation, Relocation".
When the signals later disappear and people all over Europe climb up on roofs to "fix"
the antennas the reality show "Dislocation, Dislocation, Dislocation" will start.
Keep an eye out for the camera teams in the emergency departments.

And, for those interested in uncorroborated teasers, Member Huevos alluded to 2E doing temporary service at 31.5E. No idea what that was all about and no further information has been given.
Just a joke, to add to all the other wild ideas being floated.

I thought this is satellite big brother. The nominees for eviction from the house of receiption are spain, germany, sweden and everyone else except the netherlands. SES alone votes who is going to be saved. Stay tuned for the final decision. After the break

Hi

I noticed that a certain person on the DS forum is claiming that Astra 2E is totally different from 2F, and that it has a 3m 'super reflector' which will make reception outside the UK extremely difficult.

Do we think there's anything to this claim? During the testing at 43.5, did 2E seem vastly different from 2F?

BTW, he also seems to suggest that some of the PSBs that are currently on 2F (definitely the BBC's, maybe others too) will transfer to 2E for this reason.

That would seem to leave 2F (even more) under-utilised. Assuming, of course, that there is anything to these claims at all.

Regards,
Bengt

That person is wrong. The UK footprints of 2E, 2F and 2G are identical. There might be little differences, but they have the same antennas.

Even if that were true it would not be possible. 2F covers Band B & Band C and those are the only sections of the spectrum with free space. 2E covers Band D and that is currently full up. Anyway if broadcasters were so desperate to give up using 2F why would ITV open 2 new transponders on there just a few days ago?

Clearly this 'certain person' is doing a spot of scaremongering (or should that read 'marketing'?), in the hope of perhaps flogging a couple more of his IPTV boxes, of which he claims to have several thousand.

I thought my PC had done something odd and cached the applet which shows it's parameters! It showed 41.3E at 2300 GMT last night for sure!
