Blummin' typical!!! I move away from Lancashire in the hopes of a more interesting winter, and Lancashire gets the better start to the wintery weather!!! :-ohcrap

Still, there's a few months to go for us to get all the snow... :D

A deep frost round here started just after sundown (which is imo colder than a snowfall). Lots of peasants are going into the hearth tonight.

It was a cold frosty winters night round at the cratchit house...when suddenly there was a lound squeal from the kitchen of the two roomed hovel
Mummy Mummy Tiny Tim just fell in the fire....

Don't poke him ..he might well last all night...shouted Mrs cratchit.

Bah humbug shouted Bob..
..Its the warmest its been all winter.
..and despite the rising fuel costs across the land...what remained of the cratchit family had at least one warm winters night in that place they called England....

;)

....More of the same ...ans set to get MUCH worse according to the weather ..
Didn't get much sleep last night ..
Was woken up around 3:30 ..to the sound of howling winds outside my house ..
tentatively opened the bathroom widow a little ..enough to see the TD110 swinging around violently ..like it was on a giant spring ..
I've been awake all night since ..and have a checkup appt at the hospital in an hour ..
I'm sure it didn't help my blood pressure ..worrying about my dishes..
I haven't been outside to check 'em as I figure that can wait till I get back..
But the gusts last night have to have been around 70 mph ...and according to the BBC weather ...more expected over the next two days ...possibly topping 80mph..
The winds have dropped a little ..
The TD110 is still bobbing around ..though not quite as violently ...but I fear the worst...
Ireland Scotland and North West England are to suffer the bulk ..
Sorry for repeating this ..but You guys down South ..and East of the Pennines are getting away with minimal impact ..as usual..
cest la vie

It's been raining more or less continuously since Monday here. Pretty windy at times as well but nothing like you're having on the western side of the UK. It's times like this I'm pleased we didn't choose a property on the Atlantic coast of Brittany.

Oh it's pretty gusty round these parts, almost had my hat blow away when putting the bins out, while bashing the main bin into some berk's tail lights on his pickup truck parked right outside our gate (It's their fault for carelessly parking there!!!)... O-Ha

Yesterday was pretty icy though, the back yard was like an ice rink until I put down some salt to defrost it, but it rained overnight and seems to have melted most ice, but there's still slippery looking patches here and there.... :confused

Yikes - red weather warning for round here for the next two days with wind speeds of up to 90mph.

My dishes will never survive that sort of windspeed!!

...DOH!
Another sleepless night ahead for me then ..
You'd think it only fair we caught a break after last night ..but seems unlikely after seeing that shipping forecast CH..
No way it can blow the Alcoa down again ...unless it reaches hurricane force..
But there is still risk of warping out of shape ...and then there's the TD88 and TD110 ..the latter being very exposed indeed..

Half day tomorrow - all Scottish Borders schools are closing at lunchtime. :)

I'll be able to watch my dishes blow away! :-rofl2

Think I might get the bike lock chains out and chain the bigger ones to the fence cross rails. Wont stop the damage if they come adrift but it will stop them hurtling off up the valley!

Current updates from BBC Scotland website:

Scotland is facing a winter storm with winds reaching in excess of 80mph in central and southern parts of the country.

The Scottish government's resilience committee is told key routes are likely to be closed and motorists have been be advised not to travel.

Ministers have advised that schools across west, central and southern Scotland should either not open or close early.

The Met Office has said there would be significant risk of structural damage

Oh and according to Radio Borders a wind turbine over Coldingham way has lost its brakes and is freewheeling - and with a violent storm bearing down on us!
