Hello people,

It seems the reciever I have cannot recieve the red button channels, as deduced here: http://www.avforums.com/forums/satellite-tv/978763-red-button-channels-non-freesat-box.html#post9338316

Can someone recommend a good reciever that will definitely be able to pick up RB channels, please?

And how about a recorder, how much more would that typically cost?Does that mean I need multiple LNBs, or do I just need twin tuner?

Basically I want RB (egp would be nice) and to record if not too expensive, what are my options?

This is such a great forum, thank you so much for all your help :)

In all honesty a freesat receiver is a freesat receiver, not really sure if anyone can give more advice than was given on the other forum. Depends what you also want to do with it. Do you want it to be a motorised system as well, if so then I do not think the freesat units are built for diseqc commands?, do you want HD or SD?

Depends where you buy it from ? what does a hard drive cost?....depends upon the size of the drive.

You will need a quad or twin lnb and an stb with twin tuners

An HD freesat PVR, but the EPG is doubtful I would have said

I was indeed a bit vague...

I just want to be able to get RB channels, SD is fine, watch one record another.

I just thought some people may have recommendations of a good stb at a good price.

I am looking into those brands ive heard mentioned here, starting to get an answer to my question.

TBH if all you want is the RB options on the Freesat channels then a cheap Digibox will do that for you.

Yeah, at the moment Im thinking of a TM3400 USB, so i could exp&d later with digitalb, and record to a HDD.

A sky digibox from ebay would have sky limitations no? Like some channels are not available thru sky anymore, and plenty of other fta not possible?

Thanks :)

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Depends if it has a card.

Channel 4 (4+1 / E4) for example.

And then there is the recorder issue, so you would have to buy a Sky+ box (which won't work without a card).

The Sky box is not really viable as an option.

I have not suggested it is I am merely attempting to ascertain as to what channels the o/p thinks are no longer available on sky

I'm assuming that RB means Red Button. This is not fully implemented in Freesat yet but is in a Digibox. The recording part is tricky because, as already said, a $ly+ box won't be fully functional without a card and monthly fee.

You could always attach a VCR or DVD recorder to it.

Im sure i read somewhere that some fta not poss on sly box, I think it was E4 indeed, and possibly an HD channel.

More importantly, I just get the impression that sly is very proprietary, so could cause issues in future.

Ive decided recorder only worth while with dual lnb, which im not gonna do yet, so just a cheap fta reciever that has EPG and will def pick up red button will do me.

Thanks everyone :)

In the UK Red Button is not implemented on any receivers apart from Sky digiboxes and Freesat boxes (and its not fully implemented on Freesat boxes yet!)

Some free to air receivers allow you to tune the RB channels as an normal channel

If you want a full 7 day epg you are also severely restricted - basically Freesat or Sky. Other receivers show now & next and thats it.

What about text ? I recommended a humax freesat to a customer to bring over from UK,as the tuner is better for his fringe area, but he is annoyed as it cannot get the digital teletext like a digibox does.
