I Live in Lebanon & I have A big dish( 2 meters 10 centimeters ).I am on the fringe or maybe outside the area of receiption of Astra 19E satellite .However I pick up some 270 channels of Astra 19E but not all of the Astra channels. Is it possible for me to pick up the rest in particular the Animax Deutchland channel on the 12441 V 27500 3/4 frequency?

You will pick up some as the wide beam covers the Lebanon no problem
The channel you require is on the 1F BSS V+ beam I think your dish is too small, it is however impossible to say for certain based upon the theoretical footprint for that beam.

12441V you cannot even get in Athens on 2.40m whereas 200km more west a 1.20m is sufficient. This beam is extremely sharp as you can see and you are too far away from its edge. You'll have to wait until this frequency changes to a more powerful (in your region) satellite. Nobody knows when this will be the case. It could move even today to 1H or 1M but it looks like SES Astra wants to use 1F as long as possible.

Astra 1H is another case. This satellite has no sharp beam edges and therefore your dish must have been big enough. Though it might suffer of some stronger 1M frequencies. That's at least the case in parts of Turkey.

The newer Astra 1KR/L/M are reported to have also very sharp beam edges so it's impossible to recommend a certain dish size. A high quality 3m maybe could get them all maybe not. Just owners of such a dish in your surrounding or professionals that regularly control all frequencies (even the encrypted ones) could give you an exact answer.

Thanks Topper & deepbluesky for your help.

Does that mean that 1F is at the end of its life span?

Launched in 1996 IIRC so 13 years old now, they normally have a life expectancy of 15 year however there has been talk of them being re-fueled in space but seeing is believing.

Well Astra 1F was launched back in 1996 and its planned lifetime was 15 years. How much of it is left nobody except SES Astra knows for sure. On the one hand the 4 Premiere frequencies had moved in Sep 2007, on the other hand 11362H (with arteHD and in 2010 ARD/ZDF HD ) was activated although 1KR or 1L could carry the whole Band A (11.20-11.45GHz). In 2011 Astra 1N is supposed to be launched and positioned at 19.2E as well. So it might be that until then 1F will be used. I doubt that anybody in any sat board knows more since information politics of SES Astra could be better.

Do you mean that the frequency itself will change from 12441 V to another or that the frequency will be transmitted through another satellite?

You also mentioned that other Premiere frequencies had moved also so do you think that the 12441 V has a chance to move as well?

Thanks.

In the past most of the multiplexes that changed to another satellite kept transmitting from the same frequency so that the change inside the beam was not realised by most of the end consumers whereas outside this was the case. 12441V could have moved months ago so for a movement now there should be a certain reason. Since no information of this kind has been published by SES Astra any guess would be just speculative. Sorry, but as always we've got to wait and see if anything changes before the launch of Astra 1N.

It would be great, if you list, exactly what sats and freqs you receive from 19.2E position.

For example here, 1H is the strongest from that fleet, of course, only after 1M, which is very strong.

You say in the past, so it may change frequency from 12441V to another right(provided there is areason)?

BombedOne I receive with my 2 m 10 cm dish in Lebanon most of Astra1M except the following:
11914 H
12031 H

& I receive a few of Astra 1H:
11953 H
12051 V
12109 H
12129 V
12207 V
12265 H
12285 V
12343 H

Hm, thanks for info, here with 2.4m offset dish, all of 1M and most of 1H is available (haven't tested it personally). 12265,12343,12422,12640,12699 can be received even with 1.5m dish.

Daisky, please have a look at the frequency listing on stephan94b post of 03.01.2009 19:39 _http://forum.dxtv.de/wbb/thread.php?threadid=15124&page=2

Someone from Jerusalem tested what he can get and there are far more frequencies listed than yours. This can have several reasons:
1) Although further away, Jerusalem is covered with better signal. Sounds weird but is a common effect on out of footprint reception.
2) In March the atmosphere is cooler and the disturbance (thermal noise) in case of non-rainy days is lower which can let appear extremely fringe received frequencies.
3) Your dish is bigger but might be less effective because of quality of build, misalignment or not suitable f/D of the LNB-feed compared to that of the dish.
4) Loss through many switches or old cables and connectors

I wonder why you don't get a sniff of 1KR/L.

1KR is deaf here also, despite we've been very close to official coverage zone...

Now I'm trying to obtain resolution for allowance of re-aligning of this baby, to clear out 19E/28E reception problems here, since they already grow with a lot of myths...

Deepbluesky There seems to have been some mistakes in my list .

I looked at the list of stephen94b & I do get all those frequencies except 12032 H(It is on the verge of being picked up ).I do get several frequencies which stephen94b doesn't get(ex:11856 V,11778 V,11759 H).

The 1M frequency 11914 H(which stephen94b doesn't also pick up) can't be picked up by me because its FEC is 9/10 & I don't have that on my receiver.

12188 H(1M) I pick it up but is so weak it has no picture sometimes the picture is there but is very bad(stephen94b seems to pick it up).

Of the 1H I also receive (in addition to the above)12421 H ,12640 V,12692 H.

12226 H(1H) & 12382 H(1H) are weak with no picture.

Of 1l I only receive 12721 H.

@BombedOne:
How big is this monster dish ? Looks like a nice "toy" for DX. :)

@Daisky:
Actually it's not stephan94b's dish. He has 2 120cm motorised system, the one in Paris, the other in Lichtenfels (Northern Bavaria). The person he got in contact with is located in Lat: 32.33855°N Long: 34.86019°E

This dish is Channel Master 4.5 meter unit, complete with sat tracking and de-icing system. It is not mine, belongs to abandoned ISP. Current owner is not known, it's located in local university outskirts, and is not enabled now (as guardians say). I've took a quick glimpse on it and control panel. Everything looks brand new and untouched, can't say that dish is 10 years old. But guards won't allow me to move it's current alignment, so I'm trying to get deal with their chief, to let me play with it for a while :D

Yes, there are a lot of abandoned dishes, but access to them is problematic.

For example, here's really monster, 12 meter dish. Used to acquire Sky UK signals in 90s...

41°41'41.72"N
44°46'58.65"E
