Well done.

How did you fix the ABS Warning Light (You can't just take the bulb out like we used to do eons ago!)

Good work Martin. I also do all my own work on our cars although I am finding it more and more difficult to do depending on how my back is behaving. The weekend before last I changed a driveshaft and 'P' bush on the Xsara front suspension so it was a good back time. It has been so bad in the past that I couldn't get down on my knees to change the oil and filter though.

I wish I hadn't taken my back for granted when I was younger!

I created the fault myself G doing the breaks a few months back, I broke the abs driveshaft ring but it was old and rusty, I had to fit a new one, its the item near the hub and looks like a cog wheel.

I do know the feeling at times Paul, I do suffer with mine from time to time, I put it down to all the lifting I did as a younger man, digging usefully flairs it up but it can just come on at anytime :(,

Yes its nice to do your own work if you can but always work safe :)

Nice one ..Martin......Tho rather quite shameful to take your motor for a MOT test with basic lights faults.......

.....Did you replace the ABS sensor / rotor...or just a rust removal and clean up job...?......or just a battery terminal removal / connection ..to fix the errors...?.......

How was the Rear wheel bearing replacement..?.... ....rather you than me on a Peugeot...?.........or just adjustment needed ...?.......all done In one day..!!!...respect is due...!!

I worked with cars for around 10 years when I left school so have a good idea with most things, it was the abs ring on the drive shaft, please take a look at the post above yours,

Wheel bearing was quite easy getting the clip out that was holding the old one in was a bit of a job to get out but got it done. Thanks CM :)

Here we get a month to rectify test failures (obviously as long as the car isn't dangerous to drive). The test centres are just that, there's no repair work done there...oh and the test is valid for two years...

Sorry Martin...... i missed you post above above mine.........The rear bearings can be difficult on French motors.....some have the ABS rotor and bearings all mounted on /in the rear disk assembly....what can be a nightmare sometimes.....!......great result anyway..... a shiny gold Star for you... :-) ......

Happy motoring....till next years Test..........MOT test is Every 2 years here in Germany.....

Its a drum breaking system on mine Clown man but the abs is built into the drum/ hub, I had to be careful pressing the old unit out with a hammer and socket :D

So how did you get the battery to be more confident about itself then? There's nothing worse than a battery that is insecure in itself, they often don't have the courage to go out and start an engine without some backup... :-rofl2

There were (possibly still are) moves afoot to increase the UK test period to two years. The motor trade association was objecting strongly to this claiming that this make cars more unsafe. Does that mean French and German cars are not as safe as British ones?

Think your downfall was presenting the car for MOT with faulty lighting.
The examiner probably thought bad maintenance what else is wrong with this car.

Just my opinion.

Well done for getting it sorted.

Regards

LOL nothing is wrong with it now its passed its test, so taking a car with good lights they will forget about a knac**red wheel bearing, its only now I am using lights :)

Presenting a vehicle for test with the basics not working is only excusable if you are good looking and of the opposite s_x.

Does that mean French and German cars are not as safe as British ones?

LOL Paul, you drive in France often enough....what do you think?...have to say it's the drivers here more than the cars that worry me....
