Hello again people.

I remembered that I am coming up to the expiry date of my credit card. Where I am they continuously change the card number everytime you get a new one. This means that I have to contact sky. I noticed on their website that there is a "my sky" section that allows you to change your payment methods. However, I don't know if it is possible to do it over the net seeing as the ip address would give away where a person is residing. Has anyone ever tried using this form to update payment method or would it be more fiable to get someone to do it for me back home?

Well no I cannot say I have however the fact that it is an on-line service means it can be accessed from anywhere in the world that has an internet connection, so who is to say that you had not gone on holiday, suddenly remembered and logged in from an internet cafe on holiday, who is to know and do you think they care? all they want is your money

Try doing nothing.

You might find they continue to charge your credit card even though it has expired.

If it has expired they cannot charge it as the authorisation will fail due to expiry date having passed

Check if there is another type of credit card that would keep the card number and change only the expiration date. Perhaps a business or gold or whatever they call it.
Even open a new bank account if this is where this cc is issued.
I had this once i.e. they changed my card number without informing me beforehand. I gave them hell and then they promised that they will never do it again. Only time will tell.

Not true. Once you sign up for Continuous Payment Authority there is no way out except by cancelling the agreement.

Hello!
every card has is own expire data, changing this separatly i think would not work, because the expire date of new visa card would be veryfied over the 2 digit verfication code on the backside
there is also a online verifycation,of the 2 verify digit on the backside, when this number is incorect and taken from a other credit card the verification would failed!..

Well this must be something that has been introduced since I signed up as sky would not even take credit cards when I joined them IIRC. I believe it was direct debit agreements only in the 80's.

Not having seen sight of a 'continuous payment authority' and never having signed one myself I cannot comment on it however no company can legally take a credit card payment with a credit card once the expiry date has passed all they can do is ask you to update their records to the new expiry date on their system...Anything other than that is credit card fraud.

If what you say is true then it would be very foolish of anyone to sign such an agreement. Are you sure you are not talking about debit cards?

I wouldn't worry about doing it online from wherever you are. As Topper says, you could be on holiday abroad.........

If you still worried about it, Just use a UK based proxy server. The sky website will then only see the UK proxy servers IP address.

Here's another one that will amaze you about Continuous Payment Authority.

You can even change your credit card number and they can still charge you. Basically if they can find you, they will charge you - until you cancel with the supplier (ie Sky).

When anyone signs up to Sky with a credit card you are signing up to Continuous Payment Authority, whether you like it or not.

I am not disputing what you say I would just like to add that in order for that to happen somewhere within the small print you must be allowing them permission to search using your data otherwise they are breaking every principle of the data protection act, as information is being passed on by one party to another that is strictly confidential, mind you some companies think they are so big they are above the law:-Nooo
