Ok its only October but as questions are being asked already heres the basic info if anyone new wants to join in this year
We start with midnight in Auckland at lunchtime uk time (using the coverage from one of the fta news channels) and work steadily westwards around the globe hour by hour seeing what sort of ceremonies and fireworks we can find in assorted countries.
In 2008 we found a dozen or so different midnights with the final one for most folks being midnight UK / Portuguese time. Most of the time we only use the fta channels so any basic fta receiver is fine for joining in the fun. (We occasionally drop reports on from one or two of the scrambled channels just as an additional record of whats happening elsewhere)
One or two night owls stayed up and reported on the American celebrations in the wee small hours of January 1st.
The (lengthy) report of the 2008/9 fun can be found here

If you want to join in this year then you can watch most of the fun if you have access to Hotbird 13E
More details will be provided in early December
Temporarily made a sticky so its easy to find.
A special request - any forum members reading the thread on Dec 31st please make a post or two & say hello - I want this to be the biggest and best chasing midnight yet
Now I often get asked "why do you do it??" The answer to that is always the same - I absolutely detest NYE and for years got very depressed as the year ended. Leading the chase on a couple of forums keeps me amused and gives me a great day
And we learn a little about how other other cultures & countries celebrate - get to see fabulous firework displays!
The thread will be opened up in mid December for comments & questions prior to the big event.
