How about a GTMedia 4K android receiver?

On paper, the GTMedia v8 UHD looks well specified with funtionality including modulation up to 64APSK, S2X and 4K.
I dont know how the spec translates to real world testing as I do not have one, however if it is cheap enough it might be worth a shot?

GTMedia produced a receiver nicknamed "the fag packet", also known as the Freesat v7.
It was noted by a few forum members as having a sensitive tuner and was very cheap.

The possible issue with GTMedia is that range selection for blind scan was not supported in the Freesat v7 model. I am not sure if it has been implemented in later models.
There is a blind scan, however it is might only be filterable by band or polarity. You can however scan the entire range for a satellite, that is for sure.

If you want range selection for the blind scan on a modern receiver that is also 4K, DVB-S2X and 16APSK capable you are probably restricted to E2 receivers and possibly one or two other manufacturers?
It might be a compromise of having to use several different receivers to get complete coverage?

I had the SX88 + and used to get the China Radio no problem, then upgraded to the SX88 4K and no luck on them. Also I did mention this before in another post, but was not able to get the Joy FM, Metro FM radio etc on Turksat, to the point I even emailed Lyngsat, it was tested and the radio is coming in loud and clear according to Lyngsat. These receivers seem to struggle with them low symbol rates. Am I missing the China stations?, no but as Manikm909 mentioned it’s more so I should get them but can’t. If older receivers can pick these things up why can’t the new ones!?
@Sat01Uk - thank you. i will do some research...

well just an update, i just plugged in my SS88 *non 4k* version - found nothing, even though my other box is locked onto 45w - 11550 V 34288 - 11db

Well, in THAT case, your ARC is almost certainly "not optimum" (OR the azimuth setting for 45W needs a bit of "adjustment"):-rofl2

A further update - and not quite @jeallen01 ...

I just took my Octagon SF8008 from the kitchen (spare box) plugged it in, did a blindscan and it found 3 TP's straight away - one of them is indeed - CHINA radio, i'm now wondering if the F connector on that particualr connection is "shot" (and its just co-incidence) - although that doesnt explain my main Edision MIO 4k STB not finding it - although looks like that might be an EDISION limitation now

I will do some more testing around 10pm (again on my SX88 and SX88 4K)

The best news for me is that channels "IS8-3S" etc are coming in at 16db !!! which is in line with my 20db on 34.5w and 12db on 58w and 63w

And then you should also be able to find IS8-1S, -2S, -4S & -5S (IIRC the channel names?) as I did for a total of 5x China Radio channels on that sat transponder - although there may not be live audio streams on everyone of those all the time (that's what I noted).

PS: Sometimes, simple things like poor cable connections can have a significant effect, and they are often difficult to detect.

OTOH, in this case, I would be more likely to suspect "deficiencies" in the capabilities of the various receivers in question

yeah - they are all there - that was just an example.

the blind scan found the following: also just confirm, there is NO need to change from TV \ RADIO, they are automatically listed as TV channels after the scan, and play as audio as i would have expected - so nothing "weird" to do after a scan like i was led to believe

so just to confirm....your SX88 found them ok....? i will re-scan now...

The Octagon SF8008 uses a Silabs tuner and the Edision mio uses an Avialink tuner.
In tests I have carried out personally on low SR frequencies (SR1036) with very narrow bandwidth that are closely stacked together the SF8008 outperforms the mio.

The fact that the mio fails to lock China Radio and the SF8008 locks it seems to bear out the Silabs tuner is good for low SR narrow bandwidth frequencies and the Avialink tuner is not so good.

thank you

the annoying thing is, i actually relegated the Octagon SF8008 to the kitchen months ago after fitting a sky mini dish, for sat tv instead of freeview - and purchased the Edision (new) for pride of place in lounge as i thought that was a master feed hunter Oh the irony.

I have used the Octagon SF8008, the Edision mio 4K and the Edision mio 4K+.
For me, those mios cannot compete with the Octagon SF8008 for low SR, narrow bandwidth frequencies, the Octagon wins hands down.

The other thing to remember is that different images on these receivers may also impact the blind scan functionality.
When I compared the mio to the SF8008 it was using a mio with OpenViX and an SF8008 with OpenATV.

A more accurate test would have been to use an idential image on the mio and the SF8008, possibly something to do in future?

will do that now - although vix is on both octagon sf8008 and edision mio 4k - octagon wins as u say.
i'll try openatv on the edision in another memory slot...

Yes, the SX88 found all 5 channels.
GRRRR!
i see the issue on these SX88 boxes.

firstly re blind scan, i dont think it picked them up....however a manual scan did....i say i dont think, for the following reasons....

after blind scan returned what seemed like a NULL blind scan result, i then tried a manual scan, of the TP in question, however, nothing was returned, BUT i did see what looked like a channel list flash up VERY quickly on the right hand side (i.e radio) and then disappeared, but ultimately, there was no summary to say it found and added channels to radio section.

however, when i switched to Radio , there they all were - this is certainly true for SX88 (non 4k) however, im now going to try SX88 4K ...as i could have been fooled with the simialr situation this on that STB.

what a stupid system!!!

at least E2 lists them out after a scan, so you know that you have them, and you dont have to switch from TV\Radio.

EDIT: NO DICE - cannot scan them in on Octagon SX88 (4K) - either with a manual TP scan, or Blind Scan....

Selling both of these now, as they have failed me as to why i bought them. Whats the point of a blind scan, when it doesnt list the results of it , and then hides them away in the respective sections...doh!

Yes, you have to set the SX88 (etc.) to Radio mode to resolve and hear them (as I said "sometime" ago) - so, maybe, that could be where some E2 boxes "win out" in this respect.

thanks - i remember, but at that point, i thought you was advising of doing that with my E2 stb - I didnt "get" the correlation of doing that on the SX88.

just tried OPENATV on EDISION 4K MIO - same result - it does receive the TP - 11550 V 34287 "BEAM_IS14__W01_0037" - but none of the RADIO stuff.
There was me all this time thinking that both the EDISION and Octagon SX88 4K were good for low SR TP's - and my ARC was off - people kept asking do your receivers handle it, i was saying yes yes, lol

how wrong i was - hey, at least my ARC is good - and i have found out that my Octagon SF8008 can be promoted !!!

Just a confirmation from my side that Octagon SF8008 indeed is the front runner in coping with low SRs, no problem even below 400.

Bin them mio's, they are not worth house room compared to an SF8008 for low SR, narrow bandwidth frequencies.
Alternatively, stick them up on eBay, recover what you can of the purchase price.
