Can anyone help me.
I have had a 2.2mtr dish installed in Larnaca and it is set to receive Astra 19.2
The receiver Box and Card has been sent over to Cyrpus from the Czech Republic.
I can not get any programmes only freeview.
The receiver is UPC and the card is Skylink, the programmes are all there but can't watch them
I have spent 1,200 Euro installing the dish to receive only CT24 Freeview channel
Please help as I am a novice

Hello Cheryline.
With you sky link card you are facing the wrong satelite.
The satelite you want is on astra 23.5 east and the channels are on astra 3a, 1G, 1E. which they are there. But do not forget to receive the channels the card has to be registered with someone in Czech .
Hope this helps.;)

Very many thanks, I have been told I have to move the footprint on the dish, but I was also told that they had to buy a new card.
it has cost me 1200.00 Euro to install and now he wants another 80.00 Euro to move it.

Hello Cheryline.

Tel your satelite people to align dish to astra 23.5 east. There are the channels that your card can unscrambled ( as long as the card is registered in czech country you do not have to buy new one ) scan the satelite and than you insert your card in. If your card is no good you might receive message that it says scrambled channels. But there are few channels free as for example CT24 you should see if the dish is properly aligned. Also do not forget to check the footprint from this forum ( it is an area which that satelite covers so you can not move it ).
As for the extra 80 euros you might try to do it your self. Good people in this forum will help you. Also you can visit website called google dish pointer.:)

Hi the satallite people came out and told me that the dish is right on 19.5 but they have to buy a UPC card, as skylink will not work in Cyprus. Is this true?

If you are getting the signal then the card should work.Did the card and receiver come together ? Do you know the frequency and name of a channel so that I can check on my 1.5m dish, which is on 19.2 ?

I just checked on Lyngsat and clicked on skylink and it says its on 23.5e so if thats true your dish just needs to be moved 4 degrees to the east, and up a bit. But I don't know if the signal is strong enough for Cyprus. What size is your dish ?

Let me clear up some things at first:
Czech content is available either over 1W (DigiTV), 19.2E (UPC) or 23.5E (CS Link). Latter carries also slovak SkyLink. The problem with 23.5E in CY is that 3 satellites are active right now: 1E/1G/3A of which only 1G could be reachable and i'm stressing it could because in Rodos it is definetly receivable on 1.80m but 1E not. 3A is the weakest of all and with this dish size just on the limit South of Thessaloniki, so no chance to get it in your area. In December Astra 3B shall replace 1E and 3A and your dish then could be enough but we'll have to wait for a successfull launch at first and see the first reception reports from your area which is extremely difficult because very few people having such dish sizes report in detailed way from CY about satellites with non english speaking content.

You say your receiver is from UPC and your card from SkyLink. This slovak provider transmits these channels: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/skylink.html of which you might be able to get only the ones on 1G Beam, not CT 1/2/3 on 3A V. It's just a guess of mine, but i think that if your 2.20m dish is of high quality and perfectly aligned, also with correct LNB skew (turn) you might
get enough signal for the frequencies of UPC: http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/upcdirect.html . Couldn't you get a UPC card instead of SkyLink so that your dish has not to be turned to 23.5E ? Say you're turning your dish to 23.5E, are you sure that the SkyLink card will work in the UPC box ? Both are Cryptoworks but if it's addressable then there might be problems. This should know any Czech or Slovak people here around. If not i could help out with a link to a czech sat board.

upc card costs 600 Euro per year, and because it is only used 5/6 times a year, they think it is too expansive, they have asked me to try to find out why the skylink card will not work. I am truly a novice and know absolutely nothing about it. I have to get this thing working before the end of the month, as the owners are coming over and they have spent an abosult fortune so far to receive ct24 freeview channel.

Ok, if UPC is expensive then you (or whoever decided to install the 2.2m) should have known before that Astra 3A won't be reveivable with this extremely small dish. I guess that even 5m would be too small for Cyprus since a 3.8m Patriot (professional dish) in Lamia (Central Greece) did receive it on the very limit. You have to deal with a very low powered spotbeam: http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/astra3a_h.html

So to put the Skylink card into work, your only possibility is to turn the dish to 23.5E and receive just the Astra 1G frequencies. Later on next year Astra 3B might be available but this is now out of discussion. Consider that this won't be an easy job with a spectrum analyzer which a real professional always uses in such fringe reception conditions to get the maximum out of the dish.

Be aware of that if the receiver is not capable in receiving HD transmissions you won't even see the green ones at _http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/skylink.html although the signal might be sufficient.

These are the values for Larnaca aiming at 23.5E: _http://www.satlex.us/en/azel_calc-params.html?satlo=23.5&user_satlo=&user_satlo_dir=E&location=34.90%2C33.65&la=34.90&lo=33.65&country_code=cy&diam_w=75&diam_h=80
