I use he plastic ones on my dishes, they are UV resistant, and are stuck on with the outdoor version of 'Sticks Like S**t'

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!
Question: what might be the effects of birds perching on dishes (apart from some rather unsightly sh1t on them)?

FWIW: we have a lot of pigeons and gulls around here but I don't seem to have much sh1t on the dishes - wondering why the difference between the Glasgow (IIRC) area and W.London?

PS: w.r.t. @Gladstones's dishes, could try "anti-climb" paint designed to prevent people climbing walls etc., and/or the very slippery ptfe tape (from firms like RS, Farnell, etc.)?

Bird problems..... One case I had was a wood pecker pecked a hole in the eye of the LNB, this to stash acorns, other problems were too large a bird sitting on the LNB arm,(Owl, Hawk, Raven, Eagle, Vulture) this caused the LNB to go out of alignment, (the bird also blocked the signal) bird poop building up to a point that the signal was degraded, big birds (see above list) building nests in the crutch of the LNB arm and dish.

I would recommend bird spikes, be sure to use plastic ones on the LNB arm.

Another problem was with Squrrles, they have a tendency to eat through the coax insulation, solution was to put it in PVC conduit, I guess they don't like the taste of that stuff.

Google "Bird Spikes" you will find someone in your area that carries them.

Ah, the "perils" of living in a part of the World that has very large birds - which we rarely have in towns in the Southern UK.

OTOH, we have had squirrels (unfortunately of the Grey species introduced a long time ago from the US:rolleyes:) around here, but I never had any cables eaten by them; nevertheless they did seem to want to bury plum stones and hazel nuts (from trees in the garden) in unwanted spots.

A bit off topic. We have dug a dead conifer up today and not unexpectedly in the roots was a monkey nut in the shell. We keep finding them buried in the garden.God knows where the squirrels get then from.

One of your neighbours is feeding the tree rats - set up a local group to get the rats (and possibly that neighbour, once identified!) "eliminated" :)

It must have migrated to t'principality - some might say that's it's a pity that it didn't go a LOT further to somewhere where the inhabitants could actually understand what the newcomers were saying:-rofl2

Perhaps you should wander into Newcastle City centre late on a Saturday evening and try to see if they understand you !
FWIW I come from the North East of England so if you insist on making jibes at the area you can expect a robust reply...

First time I ever heard Geordies speaking was at college in Leeds - took 3 months before I could even begin to understand what they were saying (that was for one of them, but was months more for the other one!!)

I worked for a Scottish company not long ago - I've stayed there for a year before I gave up working out what they were saying! (OK it wasn't that bad but it was hard work with Glaswegians...)

Making smart arse jibes about a regional dialect of the UK is not cool.
It shows a lack of respect and serves no purpose except to expose the limitations of the person making the jibe.
