Dish Size required to pick up signals on the NSS-12 satellite @ 57 °E

i have dish 90 cm
i live in south york shire
is possible pick up signals one the nss12 57e?

Which channels are you interested in? Looking at some maps you should be able to get the Middle East beam, but I've never tried 57E, doesn't seem to much of interest.

I only get 4 to 5 channels on my TD88, its so low on the horizon and as Mickha says, very little on there anyway.

Try a sight called satbeams.com, it has active footprints for most of the birds up there.

Find the satellite in the list and click on the little green globe, this will bring up a footprint map for that satellite, select the kU or C band beam, and zoom into your location, then click on it, if your withing the footprint you will get an estimated dish size needed for that bird.


Here is the link to 57E, http://www.satbeams.com/footprints?norad=36032 look at the middle Eastern beam, that looks like the only one that may cover the UK.

The biggest problem may be that it is so low on the horizon.

If you want to watch programmes regularly from 57e it might be best to fix the dish on 57e. You may get a stronger signal that way than using a motor.

Which channels do you want? 57E puts a pretty rubbish signal into the UK at the best of times.

If its the Kenyan channels on the Zuku package forget it now - that beam is not possible in the UK.

Ah Middle East beam so theoretically possible. All three have very very poor signal levels here though.

Absolute minimum dish size will probably be 1.2m, maybe a bit bigger

I can just get 57E - and there is a reasonable sized hill (238m high) ~500m from the house.

Thats the last one I can get eastwards though

Its always touch and go for me with the TD88, i wouldnt even try today with the grey clouds scudding over dropping the wet stuff.

Ive not been able to lock anything on 57E since Asia TV switched to DVB-S2 last year.

It might be worth trying to get Al Hurria with the 90cm. It is DVB-S on 11143 V. Maybe put the symbol rate in at 2900 if 2894 doesn't seem to work.

Then you can see how weak the other channels are before you commit to buying any bigger dishes.

A dry day with blue skies would be best.

Anyone in UK ever tried to get anything from the East Africa beam?
Kenyan K24 (11554H 3300 3/4) can sometimes be received in Germany with 120 cm already.
Here it didn't succeed yet, a single dB was still lacking.

Since about a week on 11460H 3500 2/3, there is "SE TV Service", thanks to the FEC it makes it quite easily now with over 4 dB. It seems a mixed Ethiopian/Western pop music station in a testing phase, there is no logo in the picture (yet).
Also a radio channel that sounds like "Radio Massit", it's not identified yet.

I'm curious if at least a dB reading can be made in the UK, or maybe even a lock!

Since about a week on 11460H 3500 2/3, there is "SE TV Service",

It's came back on air today with test transmissions .

Badinan tv. 11186V 2289 3/4.
DUHOK. 11188V 1774 3/4.
TM5402HD.TD88
The TBS 6925 Only gets DUHOK on the TD88.The longtitude probably needs tweeking a bit.

At this time of year only my TD88 can get to 57E ..
4 data transponders found in the vertical with the TBS card ..and Duhok being the only TV channel I can lock..
Solid lock though ..
