Dreambox 500s setup help needed

Just to let you know - I bought a DB7020 2 years ago - it took me about six months before I was really happy with running it - and Im still finding new tricks I can do with it.

Dont give up with the DB - they are great receivers once you get used to them, and incredibly versatile - Ive got 7 lnb's hooked up to mine now through an 8 way switch which gives me HUNDREDS of fta stations to play with

not try to be difficult but there has been not any were menstaion that to move the satllite postion... when you buy dreambox ect ...

If the dodgybox is picking up sky then there is no need to move the dish, you are already pointing at Astra2/Eurobird (28.2E).

What I meant was that you need to tell the dreambox to scan 28.2E instead of 19.2E (Astra 1). It is labled something like the following in the menu.

Eurobird 1 & Astra 2A/2B/2C/2D at 28.2°E

Try this and get back to us, I am just surprised that you didnt pick up anything from the common frequencies. If all else is good., It may be a tuner problem with the dreambox.

PS: Make sure you are hooking up the coax satellite cable to the LNB in connection not LNB out.

No, not to be able to tune in the channels, It should work out of the box with no flashing or extra apps.

What part of the country do you live in? Are you near the North West?

update i am live now .
Astra 28.3 s*y card in DB and satellite cable back in BD.
Tranderponder work and i am getting lots of channel.
but noting new all channel i get in s*y. i can get in dream box.
next question???
1,What next i have to do .i.e application ect.
2,How can i get other channel ??? u know what i mean.
3, What other thing DB 500S be use full.
4, Any other Advice???

I have no idea what you are asking. Can you be more specific?

You want more pay channels for free? Install CCcam and the HackSat key updater- this will get you Premiere on 19.2E.

Want more than that? Card sharing. You can ask about the technical side of that but check the rules. No requests for CS here.

On a static dish pointed at 28.2 east the only option you have for more channels is to up your Sky subscription or as already suggested cardshare. Try typing it into google and slso have a read of the dreambox wiki.

As far as what channels you can tune in, the answer is Nothing!
It sounds like you have a fixed dish, unless you go motorized then you cant tune anything in with the dreambox that you couldn't have done with the dodgybox.

If someone is willing to share with you, you could get some of the movie/sport etc channels.

People buy Dreamboxes because there is not just one satellite out there, there are loads of them that can be viewed in theory from the UK as per the picture below.

The dreambox is not going to get you free Sky but it can get you free viewing on other satellites if you work at it.You may have read many threads most of which you seem to have misunderstood and now are disappointed. Restricting yourself to 28.2 East with your dreambox will not get you anything extra over and above what you would get with an FTA box unless you have a valid sky subscription card.

Hi, i have just read back and see you dont have broadband so if you want any more channels from Sky you have to up your subscription, you cannot cardshare without broadband(as far as i am aware). You can open channels on other satellites with the dreambox but you will need to incrase your dish size. The minimum I would go for here in Ireland is 80cm. Also consider putting a motor on the dish at the same time you upgrade the dish, you will get many more channels.

Your responses are so brief it is not possible to reply:-

Are asking for advice on how to get other satellite channels using your sky subscription card in the dreambox?
Or are you asking how to get channels on other satellites using your dreambox.
If it is the former then there are many threads about achieving that with a dreambox.
If it is the latter you will need to motorise your dish before receiving channels from other satellites or fit a second lnb on your dish.
Again the whole forum is dedicated to the installation of such devices. Nobody has the time to individually answer each member. The idea is that you use the search facility to find the information you require, read it and then post a question if there is something you are not clear on. That is why it is called a self help forum

Obviously we are struggling with a language problem here.

You need to motorise your dish

The satellites are in space in geostationary orbit above the equator. There are many of them, see the picture. From a point on the earth you can see many satellites but the ones you can see vary depending on where you are on the earth.

i'm posting on this thread as most of my queries have been answered and i'm just following up on what has already been said.

I installed my Linuxsat box (dreambox 500) yesterday, i have connected it to my s*y dish, set the default s\w cam and can now see all of my s*y channels. I have a valid subscription with s*y at the minute so i am not suprised that i can see the channels i can.

My question is if i downgrade my s*y subscription to the basic package can i still view the encrypted channels that are not necessarily on the subscription?

You can only see what your card entitles you to view.

If you have access to other cards then you can see what these card are entitled to view (and you are allowed you to view).

I don't have access to other cards but this cs is a new thing to me as i have only had my box for a day now.

I assume shares are some sort of code for 'other' cards?

Either way i think this is something i will look into, for educational reasons of course ;)
