Hi guys.

I'm helping someone, who could most likely live in a strong area, for fringe reception of the DSTV package from the Sub Saharan Africa region.

The individual resides in Cyprus, and Cyprus is fairly close to northern Africa/middle east, so I think the chances of some form of reception is high.

Also, if that doesn't work,, will there be a better chance at receiving this signal in Madrid, as that's even closer to mainland Africa, then Cyprus.

Thanks

It doesnt work like that. There are no strong areas for such extreme fringe reception.

The DSTV beam covers central and southern Africa. Reception in Europe / Cyprus will be due to side lobes caused by things like minute imperfections in the transmission dishes. Even if successful reception can vary greatly over a few miles

At the end of the day the only way to find out what is possible is to hope someone has reported success close to which ever location you are interested in. Or be prepared to experiment with ever increasing dish sizes, with absolutely no guarantee of any success.

Even if you do get some reception chances are it will only be a limited number of frequencies.

Here on my location get all DSTV frequencys that are on Subsahara beam all day with good weather, when rain the signal droops and freeze.
Only on SouthAfrica beam have no signal here (only 2 frequencys for DSTVAngola)

Where about are you located, and what dish size?

I have a 2,10 prime focus irte dish and live on Estoril near Lisbon, but i know from other friends that is perfectly receivable with dishes around 1,20mt from all over the country.

Try to contact Dr. Kypros Pambou. He is a well known DXer in Cyprus located in Ormedia and owner of at least 2 big dishes, 2.2m and 3.7m if I remember well, both motorized.

But as Analoguesat has mentioned before: Out of footprint receptions are more or less based on luck. 5km can make a huge difference resulting in weaker signal even closer to the beam edge.

Some footprint maps show a minor spot over Iberia, so reception there may be intended.

An old 36B Sub-Sahara footprint of 2010, and the current one on eutelsat.com, that ignores the Iberian spot.

Only the Russian beams from 36 east get anywhere near to Cyprus
http://www.flysat.com/e36-beam.php
As the DSTV package you want is on the E36B Sub-Sahara African beams you have no chance of receiving this in Cyprus.
