Feed Horn or Big Dish

Dear all,

I am having a signal problem, my technician suggesting to buy a bigger dish 180 CM Offset(6ft), but how about using a feedhorn with better LNB?

I am presently having a 120CM OffsetDish (4ft) with a Trueman LNB.

To be frank I just want to know what is the use of a feed horn? will this gain the signal to get a better picture?

Pls advise

Rgds

What make is your 1.2m dish?

A matched feed horn for your dish will give you improved signal. A matched feed horn illuminates all of your dish`s surface, where as a 40mm type lnb might not see all of your dish face.

How much more gain are you after?

It will never give you the same gain as a 1.8m dish.

So a bigger dish would be better.;)

Well, I am in the middle east, and trying to get DD channels(DOORDARSHAN India).

I am getting channels but the issue is signal dropping.

How much a feed horn will help in this case? or do you suggest a bigger dish?
I have an LNB "SNH-031" from invacom - is this comes with a built in feed horn?, if not then what kind of feed horn can fit in to this LNB.
I use 4ft offset dish

I appreciate your time

Thanks

Go for a 180 cm offset if you can. This will definitely solve your problem. The 180 cm dish will have 3dB 0r more gain over your 120 cm. Your case is similar to mine. There is signal degradation for 1 hour everyday. I tried the same invacom as you but it did not improve over my EUrostar 0.5dB. The price of this invacom is nearly same as my dish(120 cm EUROSTAR). So go for the 180 cm offset. Here I cannot get it. what is the price for it in middle east.Check here for feedhorns for bigger dishes _http://www.satellitesuperstore.com/lnb.htm
You can even go for the Eurostar 2m50 prime focus with proper LNB.

Prime Focus - I heard this from my technician according to him the main difference between these two are:

In primefocus we keep the lnb in the middle but in offset we keep in the lower angle, so in a 6ft prime focus dish will give you the result of 3ft (because the lnb in the middle) whereas 6ft offset will give you the exact 6ft results. so he always suggesting me to go with a offset dish

I don't know the fact on this - is it true?

can someone explain the above pls

Is the "SNH-031" from invacom comes with a feedhorn?

I appreciate again the valuable time.

Hello!
DD India,is not only sending in kuband,it is also on intelsat 7/10 on 68,5e in cband!
1,50m-1,80m dish should be enough!
for optimizing, the signal,on cband buy this item on ebay (one day left)very hard to get!

itemnr
but it only works on offset dishes!

Not true!:-rofl2 It is said that the lnb shadows a little of the signal on a prime focus dish, but not halving the gain figures.

Go for an Andrews/Channel master offset 1.8m dish, that is an excellent performer ;)

Dear,

You mean in 6ft prime focus dish the signal will be similar to an 6ft offset dish correct?

It depends on the dish quality to a certain extent. The larger prime focus dishes are normally for professional use, whereas the small offset dishes are mass produced for the consumer market. The channel Master's ar apparently at the quality end of the offset dish market.

For the larger prime focus dish the shadow caused by the LNB on the dish becomes neglible, for small dishes it is significant, hence one of the reasons for an offset dish.

If everything was equal, apart from one dish being Prime focus and the other being offset, I would have thought there wouldn't be a great deal in it, with the Prime focus having very slightly less gain, but there is no way it would be equivalent to dish half its size, the LNB is not that big.

Ok then what can be the use of a feedhorn in a 1.2CM dish? will this gain the signal power? or atleast stable the signal? can you suggest me a good lnb with feedhorn? (I mean 2LNB types CBand and KuBand with feed horn)
