Well Ive finally made the jump & pensioned off windows xp :(

Ive installed a ssd into my dilapidated 10 year old Dell Dimension 5150 and stuck win 7 on it. I did try linux of various flavours but Ive given up for now as the ones Ive tried dont run my twin screens properly. At least windows recognises the damn graphics card properly and just works rather than some cryptic message that boils down to "forget it bud - time to start feckin around with drivers"

Win 10 auto installing wont be an option on this machine - it wont install (Ive tried several times). It doesnt even work if I prior install it onto another computer & swap the drives over. The first windows splash screen appears then nothing happens.

Staying on Windows 7 might not be a bad thing.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Got one of each at the moment, grandad PC is on XP, uncle laptop is on 7 pro and the relative newcomer is on 10, think it's time grandad is retired or upgraded. :)

I'll have another play with linux when Ive got some time - Ive got plenty of old hard drives lying around from scrapped computers so theres no hassle - & on these Dells the drive swap out is lovely & easy :D

Most inportantly Ive got vlc running my mp3s & the tv card is working after finding the 64bit version of the software.

No - I get handed a lot of old computers to take apart for spares :D

I never throw anything away that might come in useful and no-one wants 40 & 80GB drives these days..

Don´t know how many you have, but, if for example you have 10, you could wire them up in parallel and have an 80 Gb drive.
SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX!
