Are HD Lnb's a myth or do they really make a diiference on hd channels. Also, do they perform better on Standard definition channels. If you can please comment if you noticed a difference and the brands that you use.

but the LNB's which are coming with HD are a bit stronger than normal Ku one.

I tested GT-SAT .2 , Premium HD, Technomate TM1 all gave better signal than normal lnb's

How can the be stronger than a "normal Ku band one"?? They are using EXACTLY the same Ku band frequencies as the SD channels.

One or more *may* be slightly better matched to your particular equipment but thats the best you can hope for

I'm sure I read somewhere just yesterday about an "HD" LNB which had better phasing for the high definition signals... sounded impressive anyway. ;)

Maybe, but there is no minimum standard for 'phasing' within any Universal LNB for High Definition reception. Until there is the bogus advertising will remain, as will the mugs lining up to buy them.

The main difference is between the FEEDHORN size, just open the HD lnb BACK CAP and see it has more spirals and Bigger than normal LNB.

This is the main reason it gives more signal and the LNB is also LONG.

Here is a test report about the technomate super gain that might help others.

From memory, Technomate does not make LNBs, or receivers. It is a brand name only.

It was the same scenario when we moved from Analog to Digital. They were advertising for us to buy Digital LNB. I just used the same old "Analog" LNB and it worked. It depends on the noise figure also. Professional LNB will work better than ordinary one ( though labelled HD). I don't know why people think that HD is better. Maybe they are newer LNBs with newer technology

Actually, it isn't quite the same.

As far as the UK was concerned $ly analogue only used low band frequencies on Astra 1. This meant that only enhanced LNBs were needed for full coverage. Universal LNBs were available by that time and could be fitted instead as, without activation by a 2KHz tone, they behaved exactly like an enhanced LNB.

When $ly digital came along on the moved over to Astra 2 leaving Astra 1 for the rest of europe. Anyone connecting up a digital receiver to their old analogue satellite dish would sometimes find that they needed to change the LNB, because it was only an enhanced type, whilst others just plugged in and played straight away.

My LNB is Eurostar C-Band 15K ES777. This is the cheap type LNB mostly imported from Dubai by sellers here.

hello to all,
i think there is no hd lnb its a gimmick.
there is good universal lnb's and there are better and best lnb's.
better gain and lower noise figure.
feed horn, focal point and skew and scaler rings are all the most important things to remember.
ivacom is supposed to be the best but i am sure there are others that work a tad better.

Its all trial and error I guess. Invacom might be suitable for some dishes and others not. also depending on the location I guess.

Hi,

It is the results (SNR) obtained that makes some one thinks that HD lnbs are slightly better for their system .
It may be noticeable that a percentage of signal has increased with the use of the HD lnb, thus a slightly deeper, clearer image.

Will wait for some other commentaries on this subject.

Cheers

An improved SNR would mean the LNB is better (assuming other factors such as dish illumination and boresight have not been altered as a result of the change), but higher signal on its own does not.
