How do i factory reset my dreambox

How do i factory reset my dreambox dm 500

If you use Gemini (you haven't told us your image):

menu > 6 > expert setup > factory reset

i cant get into setup becuz i lst my setup pin and want to factory reset to remove the pin

The easiest way is to reflash (using a null modem cable) a new image using DreamUP.

A Dreambox doesn't have a PIN, it has a username and password e.g.

Dreambox is linex software can't do factory reset as sell phone

but you can download the offical img (flash) and upleaded to the dreambox using the Null modem

my DM500 failed lead flash using network
then I can't open the dreambox only black screen

I use null modem and dreamup
then every thing come like new dreambox

Null modem, just order it in Your shop

It´s a strait cable, really nothing special They come cheap nowdays

or you could try this

1) Install and run TuxBox Commander plugin

2) Change directory to edit /var/etc/passwd (type 4: "Edit")

3) Remove the encrypted password.

3.1) In the file /etc/passwd is the line:
root:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh or something as
root:EIfidfjeSAEFKEOlasdf5ewr3rWEW:0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh

3.2) the password field is the x or the encripted string EIfidfjeSAEFKEOlasdf5ewr3rWEW

3.3) Delete the x or the whole string. The line now is:
root::0:0:root:/root:/bin/sh

4) Save the file and exit

5) Telnet to your DB with root user without password

6) Change/Create inmediately a new root password with passwd

Nice one thanx, but can I install some thing without the need of password?

if your connecting to the net not a good idea to remove the pass.

not sure you can disable the password.
