Hi all,
Replaced my old Metronic SD FTA box (Maplin) with a new Humax Foxsat HD box, to get HD.

The Humax does not see Zone Reality on 12523 V 27500, whereas the Metronic box shows it fine.

No change to dish (80cm) or LNB (Universal), I just plug the cable into either the Humax box or the Metronic (carefully powering off). It is all in the same room, nothing else changes. There is only one cable.

In manual scan, Humax signal quality drops to zero as you go up...
12460H 50%
12480V 30%
12523H 0%
12523V 0%

Any ideas?

Regards,
Neil

check all the other info… symbol rate /pids etc.. are as published.... see lyngsat.com etc..

Some stb’s handle off freq/SR settings etc.. better than others.

I suspect the situation will improve if you power off your DECT base station as 12480 to 12500 MHz (10600 MHz LO) IF is 1880 to 1900 MHz are the high band frequencies that are affected.

Hi all,
strange I posted this then it disappeared?

Anyway,
all parameters are as per Lyngsat on the Metronic, the Humax is auto scan and I can't set parameters on manual scan as quality is zero...

Turned of DECT phone base station - no effect. (That would have affected Metronic too - wouldn't it?)

May be dish alignment issue as ZR is on Eurobird at 28.5 ?
Also going to check Antenna set up in Humax...

Neil

Yes, it would, all else being equal.

Interference exploits weaknesses such as poor cabling, joints (especially cheap Faceplates) etc.

Boxes themselves are relatively immune because the Box acts as a Faraday Cage.

I have a Humax Foxsat and have proved to my own satisfaction (Yes, I have eliminated everything else from the equation!) that the Tuner is deaf at the top end of the Band (Both Low and High, obviously, as the IF is the same).

I haven't, as yet, seen any evidence that this is anything other than a tolerable fault with my particular Box, though, rather than being a Batch or Product flaw.

Hi again,
yes good point about the Faraday cage, though I have no faceplates etc. anywhere, just a cable I fitted from the LNB to my living room, where I screw it either into the Humax or the Metronic.

My Humax Foxsat also seems to be deaf at the top end.... what does it say in the spec - maybe need to return.

Anyway, on the Humax, defined a satellite called "ng 0.0", and entered details for the TP 12523V, 27500, 2/3 AND changed LNB frequency to 10600, not "Universal".

We then apparently got 30% quality on 12523V. Scanning that TP then pulled in 8 channels - but these were Al Jazeera, TBN Europe etc, that are the FTA channels on 11681V, so I must be doing something wrong.

Neil

Hi all,
yes just did a full scan on Eurobird 1 on the Humax.
It found 284 channels, but nothing above 11681.

Just off to scan 2A...

Maybe I'm not as daft as I look .................... :-rofl2

I got mine pre-loved at the highly acceptable price of £80 and, even though I have the original receipt, I find it quite acceptable overall and won't be returning it.

Hi all,
pedro2000uk: the two frequencies under universal in the menu are
9750
10600
then some others...

On scanning Astra 2 (It does A/B/C/D) for FTA TV only, it got up to 12480V (Brit Asia TV), which is the highest TP freq of them all.

The spec only talks about the IF (950 to2150MHz) of course....
The LNB that came with the Metronic dish says: LNB Single Universal, LO 9.75/10.6GHz, Freq: 10.7 to 12.75GHz, NF 0.3dB

Hmm...10.6 LO is selected by injecting 22KHz signal into the cable, I need to check if 22kHz is enabled...

Software version is 1.00.14 but 1.00.15 is available (probably no effect)

Hi all,
latest update: changed Foxsat box for a new one at Argos. Result: still the same as it was before, no signal at 12523 or above.

So it must be my dish/LNB (though Metronic works perfectly...)

Neil

Not necessarily - I've just read and replied to your Thread on Digital Spy and the case for it being a Humax design/factory alignment issue seems to be growing.

Hi all,
it is now fixed.

Lots of tweaking dish azimuth, elevation, LNB skew etc. did absolutely nothing.

Went to Maplin and bought a new LNB. Installed it and it worked first time.

(New LNB is Nikkai twin, side benefit is I can now play with two receivers...)

Thanks to all for suggestions.

Regards,
Neil

Thanks for that - so glad you overcame it.

I tried a new LNB with mine, but sadly it made no difference.

All these little issues are duly noted for future reference, though :)

Hi, what type of cable ends are you using for the cable just the type you screw on yourself if so renew each end and reconnect the cable you signal shud be 80 -90% working, or if you are using them cheap fittings buy a cable with the fittings already on each end of the cable, mite fix it, hope you get it sorted.

Regards andy8ukuk....
