Morning all,

There's a couple of C band transponders I'm curious about, and how strong they are.

SES-5 5°E - 4000 R 18200 1/2 DVB-S2 QPSK - with BBC World Service streams
SES-5 5°E - 4014 R 1820 2/3 DVB-S2 QPSK - with VOA services
Eutelsat 8WB 8°W - 3964 R 4166 1/2 DVB-S2 QPSK - with RFI and Monte Carlo Doualiya feeds.

These are what presumably feed some of the FM and remaining shortwave transmitters used in and around Africa. I'd be interested to know if anyone who's equipped for C band can pick them up? :)

I guess there's not much chance on a smaller dish, even though a couple of them are S2 QPSK 1/2 which is very robust.

Cheers

If the weather is favorable, I hope to install my C-band lnb to lock the two muxes, BBC and VOA, again. Last time I didn't notice anything that caught my attention, but maybe hidden streams from the two providers will be included.
At 8,0W, the interesting mux was/is 3891 L,9891, with many streams, not 3694 R.

Thanks very much @John and @satesco

Out of interest, what dish size was this using? :)

That 3849 L 9849 one does look curious with all those DVB-MPE streams.

I also use the 1.50m antenna for C-band.
To give you an idea of what signal you can get at 5.0E with such an antenna,, here is a picture of the signal received last year in my area with this antenna and Galaxy Innovations lnb.
Unfortunately, due to interference in the C-band, the reception is uneven, so I am not even encouraged to do more C-band reception. But that doesn't stop me from testing in this band.

Tried on a 1.2m, no lock however my LNB is poorly with output on only one polarity. Tried with the plate in both orientations but no joy.

Interesting, thanks for your findings @ozumo ! That's a pity they wouldn't lock.

Is that a channel that only broadcasts occasionally? I wonder if it's what they use to feed programmes to other broadcasters.

I think that must be what it’s for, in some countries they syndicate a news programme to some channels. For example I’m sure I saw somewhere that they had or have a Ukrainian TV broadcast at one point.

Building on your request and looking for more International radio service feeds I found what looks like 14+ Variations of Radio Maria! on Intelsat 21 at 58°W C Band
All are 256Ks FEC 1/2 from 4175.640 V - 4162.630V Most Stereo but some 2 channel Mono Mostly spanish but includes the US English FM radio feeds.
20Mhz spectrum from PLL LNB on 1.8m Dish but some blockage from trees

Wow, nicely found! Seems like that symbol rate is the holy number or something, all their various European ones across the various Ku band Eutelsat positions seem to use it too. :D
