Israel IBA Channel 1 News Show Scrapped

Last night was the last time the Israel News Show was broadcasted.
The new Israel Public Broadcasting Corporation will take over on May 15
I only watch this channel occasionally because they haven't made an effort over the years to change the video quality from SD to HD, but it is a sad occasion indeed to see all these high integrity, professional employees going home because of what seems to be dirty politics that aims at controlling what to broadcast.
All the national radio stations will also stop broadcasting news and only play music and most certainly plenty of adverts.
Ynetnews News - After 49 years, Israel news show scrapped hour before airing

There are Apps that enable watching Israeli TV and Radio channels from anywhere in the world.
Imagine the BBC World News gets shutdown hours after the Parliament decides on doing so.

Yes I know however a lot of apps require a decent specification of phone and that is what is lacking also I am lazy and watch iltv.tv in English on my laptop:rolleyes: Also some of us wish that BBC News would shut down overnight

The Israeli points announcer on Eurovision has just mentioned this. Thanking Europe for the past 40 years of Eurovision because of this being the last time IBA will take part.
Presumably the new public broadcaster will take over the EBU membership though and participate in Eurovision?

What is stopping the 'professional employees' from seeking work with the new provider ?

I would have thought the membership would carry over

Here is an article on the situation, the IBA was closed down a week ago but 20 staff were retained to ensure the Eurovision song contest entry took place.
The article explains some of the reasoning behind the closure, it is more the method of closure that took people by surprise. Reading the article the administration of the IBA was so bad they could not even work out how many employees they had let alone account for millions that were sucked into a black hole of unaccountability.
The IBC is supposed to fire up tomorrow to replace the IBA.

As regards EBU membership:- the EBU website only gives this information
In a fast-changing technological, political and regulatory environment, we advise our Members on specific legal issues, offering practical solutions in the fields of EU and national competition, copyright and media law that are specific to their needs. We analyse proposals, explore the implications with legislators and promote a legal framework which allows our Members to operate with optimum efficiency whilst continuing to contribute to the democratic, social and cultural needs of society. We also manage EBU membership and statutory matters and advise on all EBU contracts, including the Eurovision Song Contest, sports, news and networks.
Presumably an application for membership has been made.

His announcement was not understood correctly, but I am sure the new corporation will participate in the Europvision contest in the future.

If the new corporation wants to succeed, the first thing they must do is to broadcast in real HD like 1920 x 1080 pixels.

Many employees, especially the younger ones, will be employed by the IBC, presumably at lower salaries.
The rest can either become unemployed until they find a suitable employment or become pensioners.

Apparently what would potentially stop the new public broadcaster KAN from taking part in Eurovision is a lack of its own news department, which is a requirement for EBU membership.

With emotional Eurovision farewell, Channel 1 signs off

I suppose they have a year to inevitably sort it all out though!

To be honest, I really don't care if Israel will participate in the Eurovision or if this was the last Eurovision song contest ever.

The Eurovision Song Contest has lost it's attraction (at least for me) over the past several years. The songs are too commercialized and don't have a "soul". Besides why do they sing in English instead of their respective national languages?
Portugal song won perhaps because it was not sung in English?
It doesn't matter how colourful and breathtaking the video and sound quality even in 4K with all the gimmicks, if the songs don't resonate to our ears, like in the 70's and 80's in black and white CRT TV.
The EBU should make it a rule that each country must present it's song in their national language. Are they ashamed of singing in their own language? I wonder.

That ruling would knacker the chances of a few countries participating, Spain, Belgium, Australia spring to mind

This has been a rule in the past - as recently as 1998

List of languages in the Eurovision Song Contest - Wikipedia

The table down towards the bottom of that page shows why the requirement was dropped - prior to 1999 unless you sang in French or English your chances of winning were vastly reduced.

I think the EBU should change the rules again.
A song with good lyrics and moving music should have as good chance of winning if it is sung in the national language, as if it was sung in English.
The Portuguese song last night proves my point. Without acrobatics and too much showing of female anatomy, it won the contest with high score.
When was the last time the UK win the contest? Did singing in English helped?
Israel won 3 times with songs in Hebrew. When they switched to English, we got bad scores.
Why? because we started thinking in terms of better ratings and chances of winning instead of getting creative in our national language, besides when someone sings in a different language with a bad accent, it sounds fake and the spectators sense that.

No I think it is more than that, commercialism is the driving force, but even a good song will have limited commercial potential even when winning, if it is sung in a lesser known language, at the end of the day it is unfortunately all about money and politics.

The new Israel "Kan Channel 11" started today.
Here are few screenshots during the first News Show.
Notice the new logo.
BTW Kan in Hebrew means "Here is" or "This is".
It is a really stupid name for a corporation or channels (including radio stations). Just my humble opinion.

I like the branding at least, it looks very modern. But how come it's gained 10 from IBA Channel 1? :D

I could be wrong, but some smart people apparently thought that since the cable company "Hot" and the satellite company "Yes" used/use channel 11 on their remotes for IBA Channel 1 , they wanted to synchronize it also on the channel name.
