I read Kabelio had stopped transmiting on its Hotbird 11526 H transponder.
The website says nothing.
Just wondering.
This TP could be convenient for those who like UK tv & do not need all the local stations.
Anyone has got news?

For technical reasons, we unfortunately have to change the frequency of Kabelio Transponder 2, which was previously received on the frequency 11.526 MHz.

In order to make the switchover as uninterrupted as possible for you, the affected channels will be broadcast twice until 01.05.2024. If your receiver cannot find the channels automatically, please perform a channel scan. The channels on the previous transponder 2 (11.526 MHz) will be renamed on 20.04. and will then begin with “Bis 1.5.:” instead of “Kabelio”. For example, you will find Telezüri in the channel list under “Bis 1.5.: Telezüri” or BBC1 under “Til 1.5.: BBC1”.

As before, the channels on the new frequency begin with “Kabelio”. So “Kabelio Telezüri” or “Kabelio BBC1”.

The new frequency and the affected channels can be found in the following overview.

Thank you very much, for such a quick answer.
Btw: Are you going to allow subscrition to people who don' t live in Switzerland?
Or do we need good friends lucky enough to live in this beautiful country?

I cant see Kabelio lasting even medium term. The main intended market (swiss holidaymakers) must be miniscule. Quite a few of these small startups have appeared lasted a couple of years then realised the business plan is not sustainable & shut down again.

Not aimed at holiday makers at all

In Switzerland, cultural diversity is prevalent throughout the landscape. The eight and a half million inhabitants consist of German, French, Italian and Romansh speaking citizens that have traditionally received their entertainment and news through cable TV. The content delivered through cable distribution is from the country’s national broadcaster as well as local and international channels in three of the primary languages of the country.

Swiss TV audiences have grown to demand a wider variety of channels in their different languages. However, this has proved to be a challenge for cable access in a country where more than 50% of the territory is covered in mountains and woodlands. Satellite is the only option for the households in these regions of Switzerland, but in order to access different channels, viewers had to point their satellite dish to more than one satellite. There also wasn’t the same choice of relevant channels for Swiss audiences who used satellite as there was for those who used cable.

This set of circumstances drove Damir Krilcic to create Kabelio, a new DTH platform designed to give choice back to the Swiss people and offer new opportunities for Swiss viewers to access the content they want, no matter where they may be.

Kabelio and Eutelsat - streamlining satellite for Switzerland
Kabelio AG, based near Zürich, markets the Kabelio product to viewers in Switzerland. Damir Krilcic selected the best domestic and European channels, 34 of which in High Definition (HD), supplemented by a range of free-to-air channels to offer the Swiss viewing public. However, the challenge of streamlining satellite reception for Switzerland needed a reliable and trusted partner to bring the vision to life.

Kabelio turned to Eutelsat to help them achieve their vision of an all-in-one HDTV experience for all who reside in Switzerland. The flexibility, power and expertise that Eutelsat could provide would help Kabelio to establish itself in a cable-dominated country. As Joerg Hansen, Chief Operating Officer of Kabelio puts it ‘Eutelsat’s knowledge of the market has allowed us to launch this initiative and the model we worked out together gives us the flexibility we need to grow progressively’.

Despite Kabelio’s relatively small customer base, they were able to secure a mutually beneficial business agreement with the satellite operator that enables them to evolve at their own pace.

With Eutelsat’s support, Kabelio launched their service to over 200,000 satellite-enabled homes throughout Switzerland. Each of their viewers can now receive the best domestic and international channels in all three of the official languages through a single package. Most satellite homes are already pointed to 13° East to receive the national SRG SSR channels, so by simply swapping the CI access module with the Kabelio CI+ module, in their TV set or set-top box, viewers can start receiving all the channels in the Kabelio package.

A world of opportunity and choice
Today, Kabelio currently comprises 34 TV channels in HD quality, many of which are being broadcast via satellite for the first time through Eutelsat’s HOTBIRD 13° East satellite position. Their signal is available everywhere in Switzerland and can now supply areas where there are no terrestrial networks with a strong and stable signal, and with none of the bottlenecks associated with streaming primetime viewing.

Kabelio has enabled a world of opportunity for their remote, niche audience, and is growing in popularity throughout the country. The most popular German, Austrian, French, Italian and British channels are now available on satellite, as well as some exclusive content that was previously only available through cable.

The partnership between Kabelio and Eutelsat reaffirms the ability of satellite to provide a wealth of content, information and entertainment anytime, anywhere and with an unparalleled quality of viewing to remote viewers.

Very interesting indeed!
My point is,how likely is it that subscribing to Kabelio opens up to EU citizens?
It won t survive with ONLY Swiss residents!
In which case, given the gradual weakening of BBC signals,I would immediately subscribe, like many of us in Europe south of Lyon or München, who happen to like UKtv for various reasons.(expat, polyglot, teacher of English among others)
Or do we all need to make good friends with people in Switzerland to enjoy it?

Strange how people don't want to say a licence fee for BBC etc, but happy to pay a company that has no connection to the BBC a fee to watch those channels?

Never going to happen - the Beeb dont have the programme rights to transmit to anywhere outside the UK. Hence the spot beams in use.

Channel closures / reductions are already planned. BBC 3 & 4 will likely go online only in the next couple of years to cut costs & BBC News & BBC World News more or less merged recently.

It’s not a case of not wanting to pay If you’re not living in Great Britain (i.e. without a UK address) you can’t pay the license fee.

I had a conversation with someone from the BBC about this a few years ago. I had an expat client who wanted to know, so spoke to someone I knew at the Corporation who said no. The reason given was (in the same vein as your post) that the Beeb would be admitting that people were watching outside the UK.

In AM radio days (AM) everyone in Europe could listen to any station in Europe at night time.
Radio dials made it very easy...Allouis,Kalundborg Motala...
So,of course people could listen to their neighbours.
I m sure some Brits listened to France Inter & some French people to the BBC,notably during the war!
Since neighbours can listen/watch & you can too, where s the problem?

So,the BBC acts as if no-one abroad listens (or,only,to World service of course) or watches,(except BBC World News/conversely France 24 & TV Europe.)
Interesting.

Interesting.

Not so - the BBC is legally carried on various cable tv services in Europe - the services pay a fee to the BBC for the carriage. However of course the distribution is limited to the area the cable covers.

cable is disappearing fast;it s only in Belgium, the Netherlands and switzerland... replaced by internet tv...and vpns.
Lyon,Toulouse or Marseille NEVER had cable,we went from DTT to internet TV straight,& their offer( Free,Orange,SFR and the like) does not go beyond French language and "immigrant" stuff (North africa mainly)...so,no bbc ,maybe 1 italian,1 spanish 1 portuguese that s it.. Very unsufficient!
OK,and world service ,CNN,bloomberg.
Too bad we can 't subscibe toBBC britbox, then things would be honest at least.
btw ,if I m in London or Birmingham, using a local "cable" what will I get in French or Spanish ?
