Sorry but im not the best person to give you guys lessons, because my english is poor. But the ideia is fine if you want to make a Topic, in this topic you can make questions, i think that a huge amount off Portuguese members can help you, is simple if you want i make a post in the portuguese section asking if someone want to help.
Like translate something or responding some question.
sorry my errors.:-bigsanta

Hello Gungrave and thank you for your post.
I didn't mean that either you or sophia would give us lessons personally. I thought maybe another member in your section (an English teacher perhaps) might be willing to help.
I think that we should try to use some language courses and after a while we might feel confident enough to join in and make posts in your section.

Ola LViieira,

Nice little challenge. But it is too early since we haven't started to learn Portugese yet.
I can only guess that it is about a football game between Portugal and Russia ?
Give us a try in few months.

I saw several self help courses and I decided on the Teach YourSelf series.
Ordered it from Amazon.co.uk last week. (book/CD pack)
They have a nice discount in the site and shipment by post. Should arrive any day now.
Linguaphone has a similar course, but they charge a lot for international shipment.
I think it's their way to make more money on the deal making a profit also on the shipment and paying the courier only part of what they claim to be the shipment cost.

I would also like to learn Portugese, i must admit to having a go on Rosetta Stone....

what confuses me is the masculine/feminine words?

you also have to use different words depending on who your talking too?? for instance you can not use the same words when your talking to a woman as you could talking to a man

errr my head hurts :(

PS
just got this link from the advert at top of this thread
_http://www.portuguesepro.com/?gclid=CJDovvuFspACFQFZQgodlQYKLQ

also,
Dish i see you live in Israel, so are you English living out there or an Israli?? if its the latter then your English is very good too.

Many languages have this distinction beween genders.
This is one of the secrets why English is so popular and easy to learn.
If you think that this course can help you, then it would be great as we can discuss the same material as we progress.
It is only 17.54 pounds and you probably get free shipment in the UK.

Its quite simple really, some words are masculine and some are feminine, you can sometimes tell by the ending, otherwise you have to learn which words are which. ( Been learning spanish for quite a while now).

You use different words if you are male or female also, for example obrigado for a man, and obrigada for a woman.

I'm going to get a course from work, for free, we have them in our library, to learn while you are driving.

I must admit I've struggled with the Portuguese language despite visiting the country in each of the last 3 years. I do try though and enjoy the challenge of speaking to the locals in their language as best I can.

The first three things I learned were:

Por favor
Obrigado
Casas de banho

French is no problem.
